Double for Hodges in JK Tyre Junior racing

November 28th, 2009 CHENNAI - K. Vinoth of Wallace Sports delivered a double in the first round of the JK Tyre Junior Cup racing championship here Friday.

November 16th, 2009 CHENNAI - Ashwin Sundar of Speed NK Racing has been declared champion in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet class of the 2009 JK Tyre National Racing Championship after the Chennai-based racer successfully appealed the decision of the stewards to exclude him from the both the races of the concluding round last month. However, Sundar was awarded a suspended three-race ban for the 2010 season by the Indian Motor Sports Appellate Court (IMSAC) that heard the appeal.

November 4th, 2009 TOKYO - Toyota Motor Corp announced Wednesday it was to quit Formula One racing, owing to the harsh economic realities affecting the Japanese carmaker. The carmaker is expecting to report losses for the second consecutive year, due to collapsing sales in the US and European markets.

October 4th, 2009 CHENNAI - The 12th JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship concluded here Sunday amidst considerable acrimony, controversies, protests and exclusions while the stewards themselves came in for scrutiny as they withheld the final championship positions in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet class. Championship leaders Saran Vikram, a private entry, and Ashwin Sundar of Speed NK Racing were twice involved in a contact in the two races.

October 3rd, 2009 CHENNAI - Sudarshana Rao of Team TVS Girling did just enough to claim the title in the Formula LGB Swift class with a race to spare in the sixth and final round of the JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship, here Saturday. Driving conservatively with an eye on the points, the Chennai-based Rao finished third behind Ajay Kini (Wallace Sports) and team-mate S Narendran to pick up six points that took his tally to 76.

September 13th, 2009 CHENNAI - In extremely hot and humid conditions, Ashwin Sundar of Team Speed-NK Racing yet again underlined his superior pace and skills by achieving a double in the Formula Rolon-Chevrolet class in the fifth round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship, here Sunday. Ashwin, the 20-year old from Chennai who had cut his racing teeth as a 13-year old driving a Maruti Esteem car in the Saloon car races at the MMRT track here, was in a league of his own from start to finish to replicate his commanding win in the first race Saturday night.

September 12th, 2009 CHENNAI - Ashwin Sundar showed his newly developed racing muscles to make a mockery of the challenge in winning the Formula Rolon Chevrolet class in the fifth round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship here Saturday. Ashwin, the 20-year-old from Chennai and representing Speed-NK Racing team, was streets ahead of the rest in terms of pace and racecraft that he has honed after a couple of seasons in Europe.

September 6th, 2009 CHENNAI - India's opening batsman Gautam Gambhir test drove the spanking new 1600cc Formula Ford car during the luncheon break at the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship, here Sunday. Gambhir, who was signed up as MRFs brand ambassador last week, took the racing car on a full lap of the MMRT track.

August 2nd, 2009 CHENNAI - Gaurav Dalal of Red Rooster Racing completed a successful weekend by achieving a double in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet class in the fourth round of the JK Tyre National Racing championship here Sunday. However, Dalal, who had won the first race Saturday evening, had to wage a stiff battle against Delhis Karthik Shankar of Team NK Speed Racing before pulling ahead at the fag-end of the 10-lap race.

August 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - Gaurav Dalal of Red Rooster Racing comfortably won the first race in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet class from a depleted field in the third round of the JK Tyre National Racing championship, here Saturday. With title contenders Ashwin Sundar and Aditya Patel skipping the round due to their international commitments, Dalal had the field for himself and he won from Karthik Shankar (Team NK Speed) and private entry Saran Vikram.

July 20th, 2009 LONDON - Henry Surtees, teenage son of 1964 Formula One world champion John, died Sunday in an accident in the Formula Two race at the Brands Hatch circuit. The 18-year-old driver was struck on the head, during the second of the weekends two races, by a tyre from the car of rival Jack Clarke, who had spun into the wall exiting Westfield.

July 12th, 2009 COIMBATORE - Vishnu Prasad, Parth Ghorpade and Tarun Reddy topped their respective categories in the second round of the JK Tyre Rotax National Karting championship here Sunday. After a disappointing Round 1, Chennais Prasad (seniors), of Team Meco Racing was in his elements with an excellent start for an early lead that he retrained till the finish.

June 14th, 2009 COIMBATORE - Akhil Khushlani, a 19-year old from Hyderabad driving for Team Red Rooster Racing, posted two podium finishes in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet premium class in the second round of the JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship at the Kari Speedway track here over the weekend. Khushlani took the second spot behind Ashwin Sundar (Team NK Racing) in the first race Saturday and finished first in the next outing Sunday.

June 7th, 2009 COIMBATORE - The experienced Ameya Walavalkar of Team Mohite Racing won the title in the senior section with a bit of luck in the fifth JK Tyre Indian National Rotax Max Karting Championship here Sunday. Pole sitter Vishnu Prasad, leading until the 16th lap, developed mechanical problems and lost pace to allow Walavaklar to forge ahead and win the race ahead of Chirag Malhotra of Team Red Rooster Racing.

May 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - India's Sangram Dahiya won the gold medal in the double trap event on the opening day of the junior shotgun competition at Ormitilla, Finland Thursday. According to information received here, Dahiya, a junior shooter from Delhi won the individual gold with a score of 139+39.
