Seattle- Yesterday, Real Salt Lake won the Major League Soccer Cup 2009 beating Los Angeles Galaxy at Qwest Field. With their penalty kicks win, RSL became the first team in MLS history to win a championship after finishing below .500 during the regular season.

MLS Cup is the pinnacle of professional soccer in the United States. It features many stars from the U.S. and around the world. MLS kicked off the League’s 14th season on March 19 with 15 teams: the Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Chivas USA, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC and, in its inaugural season, Seattle Sounders FC.

After a nearly eight-month long journey it ends with one team being crowned the champions of Major League Soccer. In 2008, the Columbus Crew captured their first MLS Cup championship at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., by defeating the New York Red Bulls 3-1.

The city of Seattle and Qwest Field was a tremendous setting for country’s marquee soccer event of the year. There was a gathering of 46,011, the fourth highest in MLS Cup history and it was also seventh highest soccer crowd in Qwest Field history.

With the final whistle of MLS Cup came an unofficial beginning to the 2010 Major League Soccer season. A Philadelphia expansion team will debut in 2010, as told by authority.
