September 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - Nine of the 12 spots for the men's World Cup hockey tournament to be held in Delhi from Feb 28 to March 13 next year have been decided, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) said Tuesday. India, who had finished a poor 11th at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, gained automatic qualification as the hosts, according to a statement from the FIH.

June 18th, 2009 JOHOR BARU - Malaysia has been put on standby for hosting the 2010 hockey World Cup but is not lobbying to take the event away from India, Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah says. "The FIH (International Hockey Federation) has placed Malaysia on standby to host the senior World Cup next year if India is unable to host it.

June 16th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has granted full-membership to the newly-formed Hockey India as the sole governing body for the game in the country. FIH secretary general Peter L Cohen in a letter to Hockey India June 14, said: "All the formalities required by the FIH Congress for the transfer of membership have been fulfilled and I am pleased to confirm that Hockey India is now formally recognised as a member of the FIH (in place of the Indian Hockey Federation) as the sole governing body for hockey, men and women, in India." Cohen said that the FIH Congress in Los Angeles in November last year had approved the transfer of membership from the Indian Hockey Federation to Hockey India.

June 12th, 2009 NEW DELHI - More than 50 men's and women's state hockey units would attend Saturday's meeting at Aamby Valley in Maharashtra to deliberate on the situation arising out of the setting up of Hockey India (HI) as the apex body for the sport, Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) president J.B Roy says. "The office bearers of these associations would deliberate at length on how to cope with the unpleasant scenario that has arisen because of the blatant and undemocratic move by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to set up Hockey India," a BHA statement quoted Roy as saying.

"The executive council of Hockey India met and unanimously decided to hold the event in Pune September 13-27," secretary general Aslam Khan said in a statement.
