Rookie DeRozan leads Raptors past Wizards 100-93
TORONTO — Rookie DeMar DeRozan scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, Marco Belinelli added 15 and the Toronto Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 100-93 on Sunday.
The ninth pick in the June draft, DeRozan had two highlight-reel dunks in the final quarter, including a one-handed putback off Jarrett Jack’s missed jumper with 1:58 left that put Toronto up 96-88.
Jose Calderon had 12 points and Reggie Evans had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Raptors, who have won two straight after starting the preseason 0-2.
Jack scored 10 points and Amir Johnson had 12 rebounds for the Raptors, who outrebounded the Wizards 49-41. Toronto went 36 for 40 from the free-throw line.
Antawn Jamison had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Gilbert Arenas had 14 points and seven assists for the Wizards. Andray Blatche added 13 points and 10 rebounds, JaVale McGee scored 13 and Randy Foye had 10.
Jamison started 5 for 5 and scored 12 of Washington’s first 14 points, but made just one of his next five shots before halftime. He finished 9 for 15.
Chris Bosh, who made his debut Friday after sitting out all of training camp and Toronto’s first two preseason games with a strained left hamstring, shot 2 for 7 and finished with eight points and four fouls in 19 minutes.
The Raptors were again without swingman Hedo Turkoglu, who is being rested and hasn’t played in the preseason.
Sonny Weems started for Toronto but left late in the first with a sore left big toe and did not return.
Mike Miller started for Washington in place of Caron Butler, who was rested. The Wizards were also without center Brendan Haywood, who has a sprained right ankle.
Arenas picked up a technical foul for arguing a call at 7:36 of the third.
