Reds’ Owings hit in helmet by pitch in 12th inning

ATLANTA — Cincinnati reliever Micah Owings was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Atlanta’s Kenshin Kawakami, and walked off the field in the 12th inning Sunday.

Owings was batting with the bases loaded when he was beaned by an 0-1 fastball in the left side of his helmet. Down on his back for a few seconds, Owings was helped up and soon walked to the dugout.

Joey Votto scored on the play to give the Reds a 3-2 lead.
