Texas Rangers offering ticket discounts

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers, who have cut several staff members from their front office and may be sold, are offering a ticket discount for weekday games in August and September as they try to capture their first AL West title in 10 years.

The Rangers said Tuesday that the discount can reach up to 75 percent, depending on the seats.

Earlier this summer, the Rangers laid off a number of personnel and a spokesman said one of the reasons was the potential sale of the team by owner Tom Hicks. The Rangers reported a surge in attendance earlier this season.

The promotion with Southwest Airlines applies to all home games Monday through Thursday, beginning with a series against Minnesota on Aug. 17. The other series are against Toronto and Oakland.
