Backtalk wins Sanford at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Backtalk prevailed by a neck over Enumerate and Louisvilleluminary at the end of a four-horse stretch contest to win the 95th running of the $150,000 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds at Saratoga Race Course.

Backtalk overtook Enumerate in the final strides of the 6-furlongs race run in 1:10.07. Five horses were within two lengths at the wire.

The Tom Amoss-trained Backtalk, undefeated in three starts including the Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs on July 3, paid $5.00, $3.00 and $2.70. Enumerate returned $4.00 and $3.40, and Louisvilleluminary paid $4.00 to show.

Backtalk earned $90,000 for Goldmark Farm, which owns the son of Smarty Jones.
