Haye says he’ll fight Valuev for WBC belt Nov. 7

LONDON — David Haye says he has signed a contract to challenge Nikolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title on Nov. 7.

Although no venue has yet been fixed, the fight is expected to take place in Germany.

Haye’s challenge to Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF title last month collapsed when he injured his back in training.

A former undisputed cruiserweight champion, the outspoken Briton has only had two fights at heavyweight. Valuev of Russia — standing at 7 feet — is the tallest and heaviest world champion in history.

Vitali Klitschko’s manager, Bernd Boente, said Thursday that Haye had turned down an offer to fight his client in September in Frankfurt so he can instead take on Valuev. Vitali Klitschko is the WBC heavyweight champion.
