Angels put Hunter and Guerrero on DL

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels placed outfielders Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero on the 15-day disabled list Friday before the start of a three-game series with the New York Yankees.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia put Guerrero and Hunter’s timeline to return at three to four weeks.

“It just depends on how it heals,” Scoiscia said. “It’s the range we’re probably looking at, but I don’t think anyone has a crystal ball on how these things are going to heal so we’re going to take it one step at a time.”

Hunter, who was recently selected to his third All-Star game, has an adductor strain on his right side, which will prevent him from participating in next week’s festivities in St. Louis.

“I really want to go to the All-Star game,” Hunter said. “I hate that I can’t be there to represent the Angels and Arkansas.”

The eight-time Gold Glove center fielder is leading the Angels with 17 homers and 65 RBIs, and is batting .305. His current 237-game errorless streak is the longest by any active outfielder.

Guerrero strained a muscle behind his left knee and sustained a lower hamstring strain July 7 against the Texas Rangers while fielding a single to right-center by Texas’ Elvis Andrus.

When asked how he felt, Guerrero said, “Not so bad.”

So what date is he circling to play again?

“When we come back.”

The eight-time All-Star and 2004 AL MVP is hitting .290 in 46 games with four homers and 21 RBIs while playing mostly as a DH. Guerrero missed 38 games earlier this season because of a torn right pectoral muscle. He is four homers shy of 400.

The Angels filled the vacant roster spots by recalling infielder Brandon Wood and catcher Bobby Wilson from triple-A Salt Lake.
