Cancellara in yellow for Tour’s 2nd stage

MONACO — Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland was wearing the race leader’s yellow jersey as 180 cyclists rode in the second stage of the Tour de France.

Seven-time winner Lance Armstrong, prerace favorite Alberto Contador and other possible title contenders are likely to ride conservatively Sunday in the 116.2-mile stage from Monaco to Brignoles.

The stage features four minor climbs and is likely to favor breakaway riders or sprinters for the finish after the ride along the sun-baked hills of France’s Mediterranean coast.

Cancellara won Saturday’s opening time trial. Contador — the 2007 Tour champion — is second, 18 seconds behind — and Armstrong is 10th, 40 seconds behind the leader.

The Tour ends July 26 in Paris.
