KINGSTON - A cracking 102-ball 131 by Yuvraj Singh and his 135-run third wicket stand with opener Dinesh Karthik (67) powered India to set the West Indies a 340-run target in the first of the four one-day internationals here at the Sabina Park Friday.

Deciding to bat first, India lost Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma cheaply, but Karthik and Yuvraj set them on the highway to a big total. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (41 of 46 balls), Yusuf Pathan (40 not out off 38) and Harbhajan Singh (21 not out off 13) chipped in with useful contributions to see the side reach 339 for six wickets in their 50 overs.

All the West Indian bowlers went for over five runs an over, left-arm spinner Suleman Benn being the least expensive, conceding 50 in his 10 overs while Jerome Taylor was hit the most, 74 in his 10. Dwayne Bravo finished with 2 for 66, his wickets coming off successive deliveries.

Brief scores:

India 339 for 6 in 50 overs (Dinesh Karthik 67, Yuvraj Singh 131, Mahendra Singh Dhoni 41, Yusuf Pathan 40 not out, Harbhajan Singh 21 not out, Dwayne Bravo 2 for 66) Vs West
