SOUTHAMPTON, England -
- Southampton Boat Show
VocaLink, the international payments specialist, have appointed Mike Perham as corporate social responsibility (CSR) ambassador to further their shared objective of inspiring and supporting young people around the world. This follows a successful joint visit to Hong Kong where Mike presented to 500 young people at the Island School and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on Wednesday 16 September.
As the youngest person to complete a record breaking journey to circumnavigate the world single-handed, Mike has made a massive impression around the globe. Mike returns to the UK Southampton Boat Show having secured VocaLink as a corporate sponsor for his next adventure which retraces the steps of the stranded crew from the Mutiny on the Bounty.
Mike will take up the position of ’second-in-command’ to Australian adventurer Don McIntyre’s 2010 ‘Bounty Boat Expedition’ which will re-enact Captain William Bligh’s epic voyage escaping the mutiny on HMS Bounty in 1789. This 4,000-mile re-enactment comes 221 years after Captain Bligh and the crew members that remained loyal to him, were forced into an open-boat by the mutineering crew on HMS Bounty, and successfully sailed from Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean to the island of Timor in the Timor Sea.
Marion King, Chief Executive Officer at VocaLink, comments: “Mike is our ambassador and working with VocaLink to further our commitment to inspiring and supporting young people around the world. Mike has a natural ability to communicate with others and this was very evident during our recent trip to Hong Kong.”
