The interdisciplinary symposium “RWANDA - AN AFRICAN WAY. Architecture in light of the dawn” taking place at the SiemensForum Munich on June 16th provides insights into the complex planning and realisation of current construction projects in Rwanda and shows new ways of sustainable economic development. The symposium was initiated by consultant Roland Dieterle from “spacial solutions”.
Architecture in an intercultural context
With development policy today calling for less financial aid from western countries and more economic partnerships and sustained investment, the symposium will present new forms of promoting intercultural activity in East Africa. It will also set out the key position held by Rwanda in the pan-African context and beyond. Well-known architects, Africa experts and economists will discuss Rwanda’s prospects and the complexity of intercultural projects.
The interdisciplinary symposium will start by looking at two landmark projects, the Kigali Convention Complex and the Hotel Kivu Lake, presented by German architect Prof. Roland Dieterle. The projects were initiated by the Rwandan Government in a move to promote economic development. The planned conference centre in Kigali aims at contributing to transfer of know-how in Rwanda and the Hotel Kivu Lake is planned to attract tourists to the country. To help people come to terms with Rwanda’s history the Kigali Convention Complex will include the Rwanda Museum based on an innovative concept.
Continuing the theme of socioeconomic sustainability the symposium will also outline plans for the creation of an architecture faculty in Kigali.
Accompanying the symposium an exhibition of the same name is running at the Architekturgalerie Munchen until 20th of June.
