MIAMI -
Jim Rogers and Beeland Interests, Inc. announced today the following adjustments to the Rogers International Commodity Index(R) (RICI(R)).
Due to inadequate liquidity on the ICE CA Western Barley contract (identified in the RICI Handbook as Barley) in the view of the RICI Committee, the RICI Committee decided to reduce the weight of this component from 0.10% to 0% and to increase the weight of ICE CA Canola from 0.67% to 0.77%. These adjustments will be implemented during the August 2009 roll period and re-evaluated by the RICI Committee at its next annual meeting in December 2009.
The RICI customarily represents the value of a compendium (or “basket”) of 36 globally traded commodities employed in the global economy, ranging from agricultural and energy products to metals and minerals. As a result, the compendium has been temporarily reduced to include only 35 globally traded commodities. The RICI and its various sub-indexes are used worldwide by many investment banks and investors. The RICI has increased by approximately 197.5% since inception.
Jim Rogers, an advocate of commodities-based investing, created the RICI in 1997 and 1998 and is currently the CEO of Beeland Interests, Inc., the owner of the index. The RICI Committee, currently chaired by Jim Rogers, determines the Index components and weights. Jim Rogers is also known as the author of Investment Biker, Adventure Capitalist, Hot Commodities, A Bull In China and A Gift to My Children.
