- Connects Legacy Analog Devices to Cellular Networks
As it becomes increasingly difficult to find PSTN lines in homes and businesses, and complete analog networks are being sunset, many device manufacturers are faced with the problem of finding new ways to connect their legacy analog devices to the latest digital communication networks. With its new MultiConnect(TM) AW Analog-to-Wireless Converter (www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiConnectAW/), Multi- Tech Systems is providing a cost-effective and convenient solution for the millions of devices with built-in analog modems needing to be deployed in M2M (machine-to-machine) applications.

“Manufacturers can extend the lives of their devices that rely on analog connections by simply incorporating a MultiConnect AW analog-to-wireless converter (www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiConnectAW/),” said Bill Chesney, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech. “It seamlessly integrates with legacy devices, allowing them to connect to a cellular network without requiring costly and time-consuming changes to existing hardware or applications.”
Set up is simple: The existing device’s RJ-11 cable plugs into the MultiConnect AW converter, then a few configuration commands are entered through the RS-232 serial port. By emulating the traditional dial-up PSTN network and using integrated or external cellular modems (www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Categories/Device_Networking/), the MultiConnect AW converter can connect to packet-switched or circuit-switched data networks and allows PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) pass-through, a common need in existing medical devices and other machines.
The MultiConnect AW converter was developed for legacy devices used in M2M applications, including ATMs, home healthcare monitors, security systems, credit card/POS terminals, kiosks, industrial automation solutions and utilities devices. Two models are available, both integrating a Multi-Tech V.34/33.6K SocketModem(R) analog modem and SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Card) for PSTN connection. In addition, one model integrates a SocketModem embedded cellular modem (www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Categories/Device_Networking/) supporting global deployments on any GSM/GPRS network, while a separate model has an RS-232 serial port for connection to an external Multi-Tech CDMA modem.
