LONDON - For over three years, a growing number of trucks operating in Europe have been using SCR to clean their exhausts of damaging NOx, rapidly escalating the demand for AdBlue. At present, Integer estimates that there are over 700,000 using SCR in Europe, requiring about 1 million tonnes of AdBlue per year.
Across the Atlantic, the US EPA has put in place regulations that will, from January 2010, severely tighten the limits on NOx emissions. And in order to meet these stringent limits, the majority of US truck and engine makers have decided to use SCR, in conjunction with EGR and DPF, on their heavier vehicles. Following a period of consolidation, there are now five manufacturers of class-8 engines: Cummins, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), International (Navistar), PACCAR and Volvo Group. Of these, only International will not be using SCR.
In response to these developments, Integer will now include the developing US DEF market in its quarterly publication the ‘AdBlue & DEF Monitor’ - for more information please visit www.integer-research.com
