IRVINE, California - Hagiwara Sys-Com Co., Ltd., the industry leader in semiconductor
application products for industrial/embedded computing — today announced the
introduction of the evaluation kit for the CFast(TM) — the evolution of the
CompactFlash(R) interface utilizing SATA interface.
The “default” storage interface of common Single Board Computers (SBC) is
migrating from the Parallel ATA (PATA) interface to the SerialATA (SATA)
interface. With this transition comes a change to storage solution options.
The CompactFlash utilizes PATA and will find it harder to find a home in
newer SBC systems.
The CFast is the next generation of CompactFlash with a SATA interface
and achieves significant performance improvements in comparison to
traditional PATA based CompactFlash devices.
For a nominal price, the kit will include a Hagiwara CFast card (model:
HFD10S) and a CFast to SATA adapter that converts the CFast 7 + 17 pin
connector to a standard SATA interface. This enables designers to cost
effectively prototype and evaluate the system with a CFast card slot.
“We introduced this concept to the CompactFlash Association in 2007
because we realized the PATA to SATA trend was imminent,” states Tetsuo
Tanigawa, R&D, Hagiwara Sys-Com Japan. “Thanks to former CFA executive
director Bill Frank, the CFA and the involved vendors, we have solidified
CFast specification version 1.0. We are now pleased to offer the CFast
development kit to the embedded market in an effort to assist motherboard
manufacturers, OEMs and other hardware developers in the transition from
CompactFlash to CFast.”
