A digital society affects change in the way of life and we have only just
begun to see commercial offerings from telecom service providers. They have
transformed from being traditional monopolistic telecommunication operators
to become multimedia communication service providers. The industry evolved
from providing a communication service in fixed telephony to one where fixed
telecom operators introduced Triple Play (fixed telephony, broadband and
IPTV) to counter the erosion of fixed line subscribers. As a digital society
becomes more entrenched, service providers continue to change their business
models to capture these opportunities. This quest to meet the demands of a
digital citizen leverages on the growing trend of convergence in
telecommunications, IT and media industries. Service providers are expanding
their Triple Play bundle to include media as a Quad Play offering. During the
briefing Frost & Sullivan will attempt to illustrate the potential revenue to
the service provider and the likely investments service providers will need
to meet the Quad Play opportunities.
Highlights of the briefing include a discussion on the different routes
undertaken by traditional telecom operators and service providers from the
media and IT industries. In turn, we attempt to quantify the potential CAPEX
that will feed into the eco-system of players.
This briefing will benefit telecommunications, media and entertainment
service and content providers.
“At the end of the day, the revenue potential hinges partly on the
consumer’s expectations as well as propensity to spend and partly on the
provider’s ability to deliver, customise and thus monetise traffic,” says
Yiru Zhong, Frost & Sullivan Analyst for ICT group. “For example, traditional
Telcos and other service providers such as broadcasters and other high
definition content aggregators, have a critical operational need to demand
high quality, reliable and secure networks for content delivery. Telecom
operators stand to generate revenues as a transport network especially if
those with flexibility in offering various Quality of Service (QoS) levels at
corresponding price points. This is an important change in order to
compensate for the decline in bundled service margins.”
