GLASGOW - Cash-conscious Brits planning to spend their summer break in the UK this year are being urged to take out adequate travel insurance by Kwik Fit Insurance.
The leading insurance intermediary is warning that travel insurance is often the first thing to go when people are trying to cut costs. But insurance for holidaying at home is just as important as taking out a policy when you go abroad.
Kwik Fit Insurance managing director Brendan Devine, said: “Most people take out holiday insurance if they’re going to Torremolinos but they tend not to think about it if they are heading off for a week in Torquay. It’s important to remember that it’s just as easy to lose money or luggage in the West Country or the Highlands of Scotland as it in when going abroad.”
Kwik Fit Insurance surveyed thousands of people across the UK as part of its summer home insurance survey to find out how belt-tightening is affecting their spending habits.
- Almost 1 in 5 people admitted they had been on holiday without taking out travel insurance. - Fifty percent of those questioned said they would still take a holiday this summer despite the economic downturn. - However, 83 percent, 8 out of 10, said they would not go in to debt to fund a holiday.
Brendan Devine added: “The annual summer holiday is a major expense and people are thinking twice about paying for it on a credit card or overdraft given the current economic climate. Travel insurance really doesn’t add much to the cost of your holiday - not only does it give peace of mind, it also ensures that you don’t end up with additional expense when you get home if something goes wrong.”
Checking your car insurance is up-to-date is also a must if you are travelling long distances in the UK this summer.
