- Manageable Expenses, excluding Depreciation and Amortization, reduced by 12% compared with 2Q08
EDP - ENERGIAS DO BRASIL S.A. (”EDP Energias do Brasil” or “Group”) (BM&F Bovespa: ENBR3) listed on Bovespa’s Novo Mercado today announces its results for the second quarter and the first six months of 2009 (2Q09 and 1H09). The information is presented on a consolidated basis in accordance with Brazilian Corporate Law and is based on reviewed financial information. The operating information has not been reviewed by the independent auditor.
HIGHLIGHTS OF 2Q09
– Energy volume sold by the generation business in 2Q09 totaled ,846 GWh, 29% higher than in 2Q08 as a result of the asset swap operation and the beginning of sale contract at the Santa Fe SHP.
– Commercialized energy volume rose 15% in 2Q09 vs. 2Q08, reporting record sales for the period.
– Net consolidated operating revenue was R$1,116 million in 2Q09, 1% less than the same item in 2Q08, largely a reflection of the elimination of Enersul from consolidated results.
– Consolidated manageable expenditures, excluding depreciation and amortization, posted a decline of 12% against 2Q08, the 6th consecutive quarter of reduction, as a result of cost control at the Group’s companies as well as the conclusion of the asset swap operation.
– EBITDA for the 2Q09 period reached R$344 million, an increase of 6% compared with 2Q08 due to enhanced Group efficiency and distributor tariff readjustments.
– EBITDA from the distribution business (Bandeirante and Escelsa) amounted to R$187 million in 2Q09, 12% higher in relation to 2Q08, largely reflecting an increase in average tariffs.
– Conclusion of the divestment of ESC 90 with a positive impact of R$121 million on the 2Q09 result.
– Net income for 2Q09 amounted to R$213 million.
– Approval and signature for long-term BNDES and IDB financing for Porto do Pecem S.A (”Pecem I”); and the issue of R$230 million in promissory notes by Bandeirante.
– Unveiling of full commercial operations at Santa Fe SHP.
– Start-up in operation of Escelsa’s new commercial system
