DOHA, Qatar - Dr. Naseer Homoud, the Goodwill Ambassador & Director of The Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) is offering his support towards today’s 27th Annual United Nations’ International Day of Peace and has outlined his hopes towards tackling situations in the Arab World and striving towards Barack Obama’s vision of ‘change we can believe in’.
Praising the President’s landmark speech in Cairo, in which he addressed the Muslim world, Dr. Homoud expressed a firm belief in efforts to build the much awaited bridge between Islam and the West. On this significant day, he also expressed a wish that peace settlements and negotiations would be given priority so that future generations would not live under existential threat. He also highlighted Obama’s commitments to engage youths, steering them away from the influence of dangerous radicalism in the efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.
Dr. Homoud commended Obama’s efforts towards global nuclear disarmament and the promotion of democracy in the Arab world and also declared that his inclusive global agenda has helped reduce alienation previously felt in the region.
He highlighted the contributions made by civil society, particularly NGOs, in bringing about change and development, provided they have the resources and support needed to enhance their work. However, the organizations that defend human rights and democratic principles compose a small fraction of the NGO community, and there exists a requirement to engage as many NGOs as possible to serve the basic goals of our development agenda compatible with the UN Millennium Goals. Dr. Homoud has proposed the establishment of an NGO - the “Obama Foundation on Co-Existence, Development & Culture” that could capitalize on the respect Obama’s name has earned in the region and involve people in development projects, under the President’s direct control. As a result, this would encourage peacemaking, tolerance and cooperation amongst communities.
Dr. Homoud is fully behind Obama’s unimpeachable conviction of ‘Yes We Can’ and is confident that with his able guidance and leadership, we will attain a united world.
