LONDON - Sri Lanka Operator Adopts GSMA’s Carrier ENUM Technology to Offer Subscribers a Variety of new, Cost-Efficient IP-Based Services
LONDON, May 26 /PRNewswire/ –
The GSMA today announced that Dialog Telekom, Sri Lanka’s largest mobile operator, has signed up for the GSMA’s PathFinder Service. PathFinder, a GSMA-managed service operated by NeuStar, Inc., provides the missing link for operators as they make the move to all-IP mobile networks, tackling critical issues around routing, interoperability, number resolution and service and revenue assurance. By automatically translating phone numbers into IP addresses, PathFinder will help Dialog Telekom to facilitate the delivery of a wide variety of new feature rich IP-based services as well as ensure quality of service.
“The GSMA’s PathFinder Service reduces complexity, cost and risk for mobile operators by providing a standardised, future-proof approach to implementing IP-based services,” said Alex Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer at the GSMA. “We’re delighted to have Dialog Telekom on board as one of PathFinder’s early anchor customers.”
“Dialog Telekom takes immense pleasure in being part of the GSMA’s PathFinder Service initiative,” said Pradeep De Almeida, Group Chief Technology Officer at Dialog Telekom. “PathFinder is a key component of a comprehensive IMS solution, which represents an important step for us as we strive to increase the use of IP-based interconnection and deliver next-generation services to our customers. We chose PathFinder for its open, standards-based technology and extensible service platform, as well as for NeuStar’s extensive credentials in running trusted registries for interconnection on a global scale.”
Launched in November 2008, the GSMA PathFinder Service is based on the GSMA’s Carrier ENUM technology and acts as a central directory where operators can share mobile and fixed-line addresses to enable accurate and cost-effective routing of packet voice, instant messaging, multimedia services, email and video. The service is available to mobile and fixed service providers as well as the full value chain including carriers, IPXs, hubs, ISPs, content and application providers.
PathFinder unlocks the revenue potential of IP-based networks by enabling operators to deliver new rich and convergent services to businesses and consumers quickly and efficiently, regardless of their network or type of device. The service is completely transparent and seamless for end users.
The GSMA’s PathFinder Service initiative also encompasses an Industry Partner Programme, which is designed to ensure that next-generation infrastructure vendors around the globe have an industry vehicle with which to verify interoperability with ENUM-based routing. The PathFinder Industry Partner Programme lowers the barrier to adoption for service providers by helping ensure their equipment vendors are ENUM/PathFinder-ready as current and future IP services gain momentum in the industry.
