- China’s Leading High-Tech Business Incubator Depends on Trapeze Networks’ NonStop Wireless
Trapeze Networks, a Belden Brand (NYSE: BDC), today announced that Hi-Tech International Business Incubator Co., Ltd. (HTIBI), the incubation center at the heart of Beijing’s Science Park, has deployed a campus-wide WLAN network based on Trapeze’s Smart Mobile(TM) architecture. The new system alleviates the overburdened wired network infrastructure as well as gives flexible access to network resources for tenants.
HTIBI is China’s leading incubation center with headquarters located at the Zhongguancun-Jianxiang Science Park in Beijing. The incubator has an established network of affiliates across Europe, North America and Asia, and gives assistance to more than 500 start-up companies across China.
Security: The Essential Element of the Solution
“It’s an honor to be selected for the HTIBI. Imagine the immense value of intellectual property that is connected to the network and must be protected from more than 500 other companies and we’re able to effectively cover those 500 companies with only 33 access points and two controllers. That’s hugely efficient,” said David Kam, vice president of Trapeze Networks in Asia Pacific. “Trapeze Network’s solution is perfectly fitted into the HTIBI environment.”
“Tenants of the incubation park mainly consist of small enterprises. They are typically highly mobile. HTIBI therefore is required to update their user’s network access and virtual LAN setting very frequently,” said Zhang Tao, general manager of HTIBI. “Trapeze’s Smart Mobile WLAN can help us to set up our tenants’ access to the internet and network resources anytime and anywhere. From an operational point of view, it helps us achieve unified management of the system and provides on-demand expansion when tenants increase.”
The WLAN project involves the deployment of more than 33 Trapeze Mobility Points and three Mobility Controllers. The users log into the WLAN network through a web-based login page and users who login with incorrect usernames and passwords are automatically blacklisted for enhanced security of HTIBI’s WLAN.
HTIBI also utilizes Trapeze Networks’ WLAN management software RingMaster(TM) to administer control and monitor their WLAN. RingMaster software not only provides detailed configuration information, but also helps administer and monitor all equipment. It provides information on the controller’s performance, monitors the wireless user access, sets blacklists and alerts and overrides any rogue APs setup on campus.
“Trapeze Smart Mobile addresses the main issue in the HTIBI network infrastructure - extend network coverage in the campus where cabling work is not possible. The deployment is easy to implement and cost effective. The deployment of the wireless network also allows for operation of VLANs with zero configuration installation, which greatly reduces the workload and on-going maintenance. The completion of the wireless network optimizes network resources and enhances the park’s image as an ideal environment for technology start-ups,” said Zhang Tao.
Before deploying the campus wireless network, HTIBI investigated other systems on the market but opted for Trapeze’s Smart Mobile because of the distributed switching architecture. Also, user credentials are distributed to mobility points, enabling much more reliable roaming across controllers.
