The many flavours of Spain are coming to Edinburgh this summer from 17th to 19th July to celebrate A Taste of Spain - an extravaganza of Spanish lifestyle, culture and food. It will take place on The Mound, from 4pm-8pm on Friday 17 July and from 12pm-8pm on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July.
Eight Spanish regions will be present at the festival for an unforgettable weekend in Edinburgh. Andalucía, the Balearics, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia will bring their finest local foods and wines for tastings including Ibérico ham, cheeses and sherry, and their best performance artists - from theatre to flamenco - and musicians.
- Andalucía will bring Bataná Flamenco, jamón and sherry - two artists from the Balearic Islands will paint your portrait or caricature with a typical Balearic background - practice your surfing skills in the Lanzarote and Fuerteventura area - the band ISGA Collective from Galicia will play traditional Galician music with a modern twist, indulging visitors with Santiago Almond cake, chocolates and liquors - Madrid are bringing the roller-skating association Madrid Patina - the company Lavelladanza from Murcia will perform contemporary dance, acrobatics, interactive shows and a short story - watch the region of Valencia cook up a storm with a giant paella on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of July - the Spanish Tourist Office have lined up indie pop rock band Neorama to entertain the crowds on Friday and Saturday night, and throughout the weekend the celebrated magician Javi Santos will perform magic tricks - Babylon Magazine have two special acts organised - the all-female indie-folk trio Boat Beam and the theatre group Triple Trip
Edinburgh - A Taste of Spain coincides with the opening of The Discovery of Spain at the National Galleries of Scotland on 18 July. The exhibition looks at the impact of Spanish culture on British art, and the fascination for collecting Spanish art and culture in Britain from the 1790s to the 1930s. Works from Spanish masters Velázquez, El Greco, Goya and Picasso will be displayed alongside British artists in an unprecedented survey of the greatest Spanish art in British collections. The exhibition comprises over 130 paintings, watercolours, drawings, prints and photographs.
