Wipro net up 12 percent in first quarter

September 17th, 2009 KOLKATA - The West Bengal government Thursday invited IT major Wipro and infosys to start new centres at Rajarhat in the northeastern fringes of the city and promised to give 45 acres of land to each of the companies. "I'm proposing today (Thursday) through the media that we are ready to give 45 acres of land each to Wipro and Infosys.

September 17th, 2009 KOLKATA - West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on Thursday said that the Government would revive plans to build a one billion dollar IT hub, which was earlier, scrapped due to land acquisition problems. The State Government has planned an IT town on the outskirts of Kolkata to host IT giants Wipro and Infosys, and following the issue Bhattacharya said that IT majors, Wipro and Infosys would be given 45 acres of land each near the airport, where they can construct new centres.

September 16th, 2009 KOLKATA - West Bengal's ruling Left Front Wednesday said the IT township project involving giants Infosys and Wipro has only been kept on "hold" and not cancelled. "The state government has not abandoned the township project.

In a regulatory filing Wednesday, the IT bellwether said the guidance was based on its performance in the first quarter (April-June) when its flagship business division revenue at $1.03 billion showed decline of 1.3 percent sequentially and 3.3 percent year-on-year (YoY).

April 22nd, 2009 BANGALORE - Wipro Ltd posted a net profit of Rs.38.99 billion (Rs.3,899 crore) for fiscal 2008-09, registering 19 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth under the Indian accounting standard. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, the IT bellwether said Wednesday its consolidated revenue for the fiscal under review (FY 2009) was Rs.255.44 billion (Rs.25,544 crore), posting 28 percent YoY growth under the Indian accounting standard.

April 22nd, 2009 BANGALORE - Wipro Ltd posted a net profit of Rs.10.1 billion (Rs.1,010 crore) for the fourth quarter (January-March) of fiscal 2008-09, registering 15 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth under the Indian accounting standard. In a regulatory filing, the IT bellwether said Wednesday its consolidated revenues for the quarter under review (Q4) of FY 2009 rose to Rs.64.52 billion (Rs.6,452 crore), posting YoY growth of 13 percent under the Indian accounting standard.

April 22nd, 2009 BANGALORE - Wipro Ltd has projected $1 billion revenue from its global IT services business for the first quarter (April-June) of this fiscal (2009-10), which is lower than the $1.05 billion in the fourth quarter (January-March) of last fiscal 2008-09. In a regulatory filing to stock exchanges, the IT bellwether said Wednesday the market conditions continued to pose challenges due to the impact of global recession and financial meltdown in the US, which accounts for about 60 percent of its total IT services revenue.

April 22nd, 2009 BANGALORE - India's third largest IT bellwether Wipro Ltd, which resisted global meltdown to post double-digit growth in fiscal 2008-09, has succumbed in the beginning of the new fiscal (2009-10) to project lower revenue guidance from its global IT services business. 'Flat sequential growth and uncertainty in a subdued environment have made us project lower revenue guidance from global IT services in the range of $1-1.03 billion for first quarter (April-June) of FY 2010,' Wipro chief financial officer Suresh Senapaty told IANS here Wednesday.

January 20th, 2009 BANGALORE - India's third largest IT bellwether lost more employees than it could hire during the third quarter this fiscal, a senior executive admitted Wednesday. 'Yes, our net addition of employees was less than gross addition in the global IT services and products business due to slowdown and attrition in the third quarter compared to second quarter,' Wipro human resources head Pratik Kumar told IANS here.
