White tigress found dead in Chhattisgarh zoo

September 3rd, 2009 SUNDERBAN - A six-year old tigress, which was trapped after it terrorised villagers over the last several weeks, was released on Wednesday by forest officials in the Dhulibhashani forest of Sunderban delta. The six-year old is among the two Royal Bengal Tigresses, which were trapped in neighbouring forest areas in the Sunderban Delta area, and were later caged in the Panchmakhani and Pirkhali forests.

July 24th, 2009 AURANGABAD - The white tigress, which had escaped from its cage during the early Friday morning, has been recaptured after a three-hour long operation. The 18-acre zoo in the Siddharth Garden of Aurangabad is always choc-a-block with people.

July 6th, 2009 SUNDARBANS - Wildlife authorities released a tigress with animal tracking chip to keep an eye on the psychological behaviour of the big cat in Sundarbans forests in West Bengal. The seven-year old tigress, which had entered Satjelia village under Gosaba block of the Sundarbans delta a few days ago, was trapped on July 2.

May 20th, 2009 RAIPUR - An income tax official was found dead Wednesday at a rest house in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur town, police said. Officials at the police headquarters here said that Income Tax Commissioner (Appeal) Kaisang was found dead at the Bilaspur rest house where he was staying for a few months.

May 13th, 2009 RAIPUR - Five deer have been found dead in Maitri Bagh zoo of Chhattisgarh, an official said Wednesday. Maitri Bagh zoo, about 30 km west of state capital Raipur, is managed by Bhilai Steel Plant of public sector firm Steel Authority of India (SAIL).

May 10th, 2009 RAIPUR - Four members of a family were found murdered Sunday in a forested hamlet of Chhattisgarh, police said. Chaitram, his wife Kubri Bai and their two minor sons Pramod and Manoj, who were residents of Vimtala village of northern Korba district, were found dead in a forested pocket under the Katghora police station of the same district.

April 29th, 2009 RAIPUR - A woman district education officer (DEO) allegedly committed suicide in her home here in Chhattisgarh, the police said Wednesday. Police officer Shaukat Ali said that Raipur DEO Shail Shandile was found dead at her posh Shankar Nagar residence.

April 28th, 2009 BHOPAL - A pair of white tigers have been transported to the Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal.ften termed as the pride of Bhopal, Van Vihar is home to a number of animals, including the white tiger, the panther and the lion. The tigers have come from the Nandankanan National Park of Orissa under an Animal Exchange Programme of Central Zoo Authority (CZA).

March 10th, 2009 BHOPAL - A tigress from the Kanha National Park was airlifted Monday to the Panna Tiger Reserve in eastern Madhya Pradesh so as to increase the feline numbers in the reserve. The tigress taken by an Indian Air Force helicopter to the reserve spread in an area of 542 sq km in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh Monday afternoon, forest officials said.

March 7th, 2009 COLOMBO - The carcass of a black tigress has been found in Sri Lanka, a media report said Saturday. The Daily Mirror said the carcass was found after it got caught in a poacher's snare in Deniyaya area, around about 200 km from here.

March 5th, 2009 BHOPAL - A tigress was shifted from Bandhavgarh to the Panna tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh by road Wednesday after the authorities failed to get an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter, an official said. February 4th, 2009 RAIPUR - A Chhattisgarh policeman shot himself dead with his service rifle Thursday when he was in an official bus here, a police officer said. Bhupesh Das Vaishnav, 40, head constable of police's ninth battalion, opened fire at himself with his AK-47 when the bus was near state's New Circuit House.

January 24th, 2009 BHOPAL - Van Vihar National Park in the Madhya Pradesh capital may soon get a pair of white tigers from the Nandankanan Zoo in Orissa after an approval from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), state forest minister said. But the national park will have to part with tigress Sara and a pair of jackals under an exchange programme with the Nandankanan Zoo.

January 6th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Two rare white tiger cubs were killed by their mother in Orissa's Nandankanan zoo, an official said Wednesday. The two-day-old cubs were found dead by zoo veterinarians Tuesday.
