Violence in Uttar Pradesh town after truck mows down three

"The accident took place on the GT Road near Shalimer Gate in Howrah when Gokul Poddar, 11, was returning on a bicycle from tuition," a senior police officer said.

September 16th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Six pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh on their way back from Orissa's temple town of Puri were killed when their bus was hit by a speeding truck, police said Thursday. Three more people were critically injured in the incident that took place late Wednesday in Bhadrak district.

June 12th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - Seven members of a family died after being buried alive under a heap of crushed stones in Punjab's Patiala district during the wee hours Friday, police said. The incident took place when the truck in which the family members were travelling overturned in the Banur town of Patiala, 25 km from state capital Chandigarh.

April 14th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The death of a 12-year-old boy, mowed down by a truck Tuesday, sparked off violence and tension in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city, police said. According to police, the accident took place in the Khulwa area of the city, when the cement bags-laden truck ran over Karan, killing him on the spot.

March 12th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two people were killed and at least seven injured as the police opened fire on clashing groups of two communities in Varanasi town of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, an official said here. The police opened fire to quell communal violence that broke out during Holi celebrations near the Gauriya Masjid in Bazaridiha locality under the Bhelpur police station in the heart of town, a home department spokesman said.
