‘Uzbek militant Tahir Yuldashev killed by US predator in Waziristan’

October 3rd, 2009 PESHAWAR - In the wake of Uzbek Al Qaeda leader Tahir Yuldashev's reported death in a drone strike, the terrorist outfit has named a relatively unknown militant, Usman Jan, as his successor. According to Pak military sources, Yuldashev, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, was killed by a US missile in August in Pakistan's South Waziristan region.

September 22nd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least 34 suspected militants have died in clashes in Pakistan's South and North Waziristan while the Taliban claim to have killed 45 security personnel, media reports said Tuesday. Gunship helicopters pounded militant hideouts in South Waziristan, killing at least 26 suspected militants while injuring several others, Dawn reported Tuesday.

September 22nd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly killed 45 security personnel in Waziristan, while 34 extremists have been killed across the region in the last 24 hours. According to a television report, helicopter gunships pounded military hideouts in South Waziristan killing at least 26 Taliban fighters besides injuring many others.

September 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - An important leader of an Uzbek militant group that is closely associated with Al Qaeda was killed in a recent US drone attack in Pakistan's restive tribal region bordering Afghanistan, Pakistani intelligence officials said Friday. Najmiddin Jalolov alias Yahov, 37, was killed Monday when the four-wheel drive he was travelling in was hit by a single missile fired from an unmanned drone aircraft in Mir Ali area, North Waziristan district, which is a hotbed of Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.

September 13th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Government has said that it has credible evidence that there are more than 5,000 Uzbek militants hiding in North and South Waziristan. Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), FATA Additional Chief Secretary Habibullah Khan said these militants regularly travel through Balochistan.

July 14th, 2009 TANK - A militant leader in South Waziristan, who is said to be in the good books of the government, has said that the peace agreement in the agency had been "ineffective". Abdul Haq, a spokesman for Maulvi Nazir said that security forces were attacking the Taliban despite the fact that they had "maintained peace in the agency during the past two years." "We think the peace deal has lost its validity and we hold the government responsible for this," The Dawn quoted Nazir, as saying.

July 8th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A suspected US missile strike on a Taliban bastion in north-western Pakistan killed at least eight militants Wednesday, an intelligence official said. Six missiles fired allegedly by US Predator drones at around 1.30 a.m.

According to sources, the US drone fired two missiles at a suspected hide out of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud in Zangra area of Ladha tehsil of the province, killing 14 persons on the spot besides injuring several others.

July 3rd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least 13 people were killed and several others injured in two missile hits carried out by unmanned US Predator aircrafts in South Waziristan on Friday. Sources said the US drone targeted a suspected terror camp in Kokatkhel village of Sarokai area, and fired several missiles killing 13 persons on the spot besides wounding several others.

June 23rd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A militant leader, who openly challenged Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud, was killed in north-western Pakistan Tuesday, media reports said. Qari Zainuddin was fatally shot in his house in the town of Dera Ismail Khan, located near the lawless South Waziristan tribal district, the main stronghold of Mehsud.

June 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - In yet another drone strike in less than a week in South Waziristan, at least five people were killed and several others injured when two US Predator aircrafts fired missiles at a suspected Taliban hideout in the Wana region on Thursday. According to the sources, the drones targeted the hideouts of Taliban commander Mullah Nazir in Shah Alam and Raghzai area near Wana, firing five missiles.

May 16th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - An unmanned aircraft, suspected to be US operated, fired two missiles at a militant hideout in Pakistan's ungoverned tribal region bordering Afghanistan, killing nine people, a security official said Tuesday. Four more people were injured in the airstrike, which also hit a compound.

May 9th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least eight persons were killed and seven others injured in a suspected U.S. drone strike at Sararogha area in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Saturday, The News reported.
