Wash. school giving honorary degree to UN official

SEATTLE — The University of Washington will give an honorary degree to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon when he visits the school later this month.

Ban will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the university at a formal academic convocation Oct. 26. As part of the program, the secretary-general will also give a lecture.

Ban is the eighth secretary-general of the United Nations and previously was Korea’s minister of foreign affairs and trade.
