A police spokesman said militants riding a motorcycle lobbed the grenade around 7.10 p.m.

March 1st, 2009 GUWAHATI - Three guerrillas were killed in separate shooutouts with security forces in Manipur, as 43 militants surrendered before authorities in the adjoining state of Assam, officials Saturday said. A police spokesman said two militants of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were killed in a gun battle with troopers of the paramilitary Assam Rifles late Friday near village Lamlong, about 20 km east of Manipur's capital Imphal.

February 21st, 2009 GUWAHATI - A splinter group of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Friday said it has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, formally giving up its demand for independence for Assam and instead seeking maximum autonomy for the state. 'We have put forward an 18-point charter of demands, a copy of which was sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for active consideration,' Mrinal Hazarika, president of the pro-talks ULFA faction, told journalists.

February 1st, 2009 GUWAHATI - Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Monday said there are about 300 cadres of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in 15 camps located in Bangladesh. 'The ULFA and the NDFB based in Bangladesh are getting support from local groups and organisations like HuJI (Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami) and we want Dhaka to launch a flush out drive to uproot their bases,' the chief minister told journalists here.

January 28th, 2009 GUWAHATI - Two policemen and a separatist guerilla were killed and a six-year-old child injured in a gun battle between security forces and militants in Assam Thursday, officials said. A police spokesman said the gun battle took place between a group of militants belonging to the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and a joint team of the police and the army near village Sapekheti in Sibsagar district, about 390 km east of Assam's main city of Guwahati.
