UAE contributes 500,000 dollars to UN for Bhutto’s assassination probe

September 28th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A third UN team has arrived here to probe the December 2007 assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The six-member team is scheduled to meet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other political leaders, as also officials of the interior ministry and the law enforcement agencies.

August 31st, 2009 RAWALPINDI - In order to remove the ambiguity in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency, in association with other intelligence agencies, is planning to reconstruct the scene of late Pakistan prime minister's assassination. The Daily Times quoted official sources as saying that a new joint investigation team would reconstruct the crime scene because the original crime scene had not been preserved properly.

August 28th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Attorney General Latif Khosa has said that the masterminds of the October, 2007 Karsaz bombing in Karachi may also have been involved in former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Interacting with media persons after meeting the two members of the UN commission probing Bhutto's assassination, Khosa said the commission was doing a 'wonderful job' and it has a mandate to complete the probe within six months.

July 30th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - The protocol officer of late Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has filed a court petition seeking registration of a criminal case against former President Pervez Musharraf, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi for planning a "conspiracy that culminated in the assassination of Bhutto". Advocate Chaudhry Mehmood Aslam, who claimed he had been Benazir's protocol officer from 1986 to 2007, also named former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Ejaz Hussain Shah, Babar Awan and others in his petition, the Daily Times reports.

July 21st, 2009 LONDON - Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has rebuffed aspersions regarding his involvement in former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Addressing a seminar at the Committee House of the British Parliament here, Musharraf rejected allegations that he did not provide a fool-proof security to the former premier.

July 19th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The UN inquiry commission probing the assassination of the former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has completed its first round of investigations and left the country. During its three-day stay in Pakistan, the commission met President Asif Ali Zardari, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Interior Advisor Rehman Malik.

July 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Arresting federal ministers Babar Awan and Rehman Malik could lead to the masterminds of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Chaudhury Aslam has said. Aslam said he has already written a letter to the UN Commission probing the assassination asking it to arrest the ministers.

July 14th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - Two officials of the United Nations technical assessment team paid a surprise visit to the spot in Liaquat Bagh where former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun and bomb attack on December 27, 2007. A senior police official on Monday said that the UN officials visited Liaquat Bagh to assess the security arrangements in the area and its surroundings, in order to ensure foolproof arrangements for members of the UN Commission due to arrive in Pakistan to probe Benazir's murder.

June 24th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - With the United Nations (UN) set to start investigations into the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from next month, Pakistan has been asked to provide English translations of Urdu documents of the probe conducted so far. The UN subcommission, which would be probing the assassination of the former premier for six months, has asked Islamabad to send two copies of the investigation report prepared by Pakistan intelligence agencies.

June 11th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The UN is set to begin its probe into the 2007 assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto with the appointment of a former Irish policeman as the third member of a commission that has been set up to conduct the enquiry. Peter Fitzgerald, a former deputy commissioner of the Irish National Police Force, Garda Siochana, was a member of the UN commission that probed the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Harriri, Dawn reported Wednesday.

June 3rd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Alleging that the former President General Prevez Musharraf was responsible for former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has urged the government to put the autocratic ruler on trial. The PML-N asked the government to register a first information report (FIR) against Musharraf for Bhutto's assassination and put his name on the Exit Control List (ECL), The Daily Times reports.

April 9th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A UN probe into the assassination is likely to cost Rs.200 million, a media report Thursday said. Quoting sources, Geo TV said initial estimates of the expenses involved has been placed at Rs.200 million.

February 4th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has announced an independent inquiry commission to investigate the assassination of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto. 'On the basis of our extensive consultations with the government of Pakistan and members of the (UN) Security Council, I intend to establish very shortly an independent commission of inquiry headed by a very distinguished person, whom I am going to nominate soon,' the secretary general said Wednesday at a banquet hosted by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari.

January 30th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that United Nations would likely to investigate into the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported Saturday. Qureshi said there was a possibility that United Nations would soon announce the setting up of a fact-finding mission to probe Bhutto's assassination.
