SRINAGAR - Two soldiers of the Indian Army and two separatist guerrillas were killed in separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir Monday, authorities said.
The separatist guerrillas made an infiltration bid into the Kashmir Valley in the north Keran sector of the Line of Control (LOC) late Sunday when soldiers challenged them, an army spokesman told IANS.
One terrorist has so far been killed in this ongoing encounter while two jawans of the army also got killed. The group of terrorists tried to sneak into our side of the LOC but were immediately challenged,” the spokesman said.
LoC divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
In another gunfight, one district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed while his other accomplice is still firing at the cordoning security men in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
On specific information, troops of Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the special operations group of the police surrounded a house in Sangerwani village of Pulwama this morning. Two militants were holed up inside the house who refused to surrender after being challenged by the security forces triggering an encounter,” a senior police officer told IANS.
So far, one militant identified as Rehman Gosri, district commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen group, has been killed while the other holed up militant is still firing at the security forces,” the officer added.
