Two arrested with arms in Jharkhand

September 29th, 2009 RANCHI - Five Maoist rebels, including two top leaders, have been arrested from two districts in Jharkhand, police said Tuesday. Four Maoist rebels were arrested Monday night from the Semara jungle, which falls under Palkot police station of Gumla district, around 145 km from here.

September 11th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Four people from Jharkhand, including a medicine bulk trader, were arrested and heroin worth Rs.15 million was seized, Delhi Police said Friday. According to Delhi Police's special cell, the inter-state gang of drug peddlers supplied heroin from Jharkhand to Delhi.

September 8th, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a senior commander, were arrested after a gun battle lasting over two and a half hours on the outskirts of Ranchi Tuesday, police said. According to police, three members of the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC), including commander Raj Kumar Ganju, were arrested from Churugarha village, around 55 km from Ranchi.

September 1st, 2009 RANCHI - The Deputy Commissioner of Sahebganj district of Jharkhand has been arrested for not appointing a peon as ordered by the court, police said Wednesday. The Jharkhand High Court had Tuesday directed Sahebganj Superintendent of Police (SP) to arrest Deputy Commissioner K.

July 25th, 2009 RANCHI - Former human resources minister of Jharkhand and independent legislator Bandu Tirkey has been booked under the Arms Act after officials found an unlicensed revolver and 13 live cartridges at his house here, police said Saturday. Officials of the vigilance department had raided the houses of former chief minister and Lok Sabha MP Madhu Koda and three ex-ministers, including Tirkey, in connection with a graft case.

July 21st, 2009 RANCHI - Vigilance sleuths Tuesday arrested a district mining officer in Jharkhand's Bokaro district while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000, an official said. Deo Narayan Prajapati had filed a complaint with the vigilance department against Arjun Singh.

July 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Eight Maoist rebels have been arrested at three places in Jharkhand Sunday, police said. Four rebels, belonging to the Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT), were arrested in Ramgarh district following a tip-off.

July 11th, 2009 RANCHI - Three people have been arrested for allegedly selling arms and explosives to Maoists in Jharkhand, police said Saturday. According to police, Babban Pandey was arrested at Bokaro district's Fusro railway station Saturday morning when he arrived from Kolkata and 2,000 pieces of components for hand grenades were seized from him.

June 29th, 2009 RANCHI - Eleven Maoist guerrillas were arrested Monday from a Jharkhand village for distriibuting pamphlets. The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) guerrillas were arrested from Cheliyama village in Seraikela and Kharsawa district, about 170 km from the state capital Ranchi.

June 22nd, 2009 RANCHI - Security forces searching for landmines in Jharkhand were trapped in their vehicle Monday when they came under attack by Maoist guerrillas, who have called for a 48-hour strike in five states to protest the operations against them in West Bengal's Lalgarh area. Maoist rebels blew up the anti-landmine vehicle near Boramora jungle of East Singbhum district, police said as the strike came into effect.

May 11th, 2009 RANCHI - Ten youths accused of raping a tribal girl were arrested Monday in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, police said. The Class 12 students were arrested from their college hostel near Pathahatu village.

February 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a commander, were arrested in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. Following a tip-off, the rebels belonging to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were arrested from the Bachau jungle, around 60 km from here.

January 26th, 2009 RANCHI - Six Maoist rebels including an 'area commander' were arrested Tuesday in Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said. According to police, four Maoist rebels were arrested from the jungle area under Palkot police station of Gumla district, 140 km from Ranchi.

January 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Four rebels of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested from two places in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. According to the police, three Maoist rebels including the sub zonal commander of CPI-Maoist, Nitish Yadav was arrested from the Palamau district, some 190 km from Ranchi Tuesday.

January 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Six security personnel were killed in a landmine blast by Maoist rebels while seven guerrillas were arrested in a separate incident in Jharkhand Saturday, a police officer said. The landmine was detonated Saturday afternoon by Maoist rebels between Manika and Patki on the national highway in Latehar district, about 140 km from here.
