Two alleged criminals lynched in Jharkhand

October 12th, 2009 RANCHI/PATNA - Maoists blew up a stretch of a railway track and set ablaze three trucks in Jharkhand as they began a two-day shutdown in Bihar and Jharkhand in protest against the Centre's alleged effort to put down the CPI (Maoists) movement by force. According to sources, the incident took place at around 2:30 a.m.

October 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - Maoist rebels on Tuesday blew up a railway track between the Dania and the Jogeshwar railway stations under Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway in Jharkhand. The powerful explosion damaged about one-metre of the track, which led to disruption of rail traffic for over 11 hours.

September 16th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist guerrilla was Wednesday lynched in Jharkhand when he and a colleague went to a village to extort money and threaten the residents, police said. The incident in Segaisai village in West Singhbhum district, about 300 km from here, took place in the early hours of the morning when two members of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) went there to collect money and threaten the villagers against helping the police, officials said.

September 4th, 2009 RANCHI - A man was beaten to death after he allegedly stole valuables from three houses in Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said Saturday. Local residents killed Sosen Kujur at Joradand village of Gumla district, 145 km from state capital Ranchi, late Friday night.

July 14th, 2009 PATNA - Two men -- one accused of molesting a girl and the other a suspected thief -- were lynched by mobs in Bihar's Gopalganj and Aurangabad districts, police said Tuesday. A man, identified only as Shivnath, was beaten to death Monday evening in Shahpur village in Gopalganj by family members and neighbours after a girl alleged that he had tried to molest her.

July 7th, 2009 PATNA - A gangster was beaten to death by a mob that nabbed him while he was trying to flee after killing a Hindu priest in Bihar's temple town of Gaya, police said Tuesday. A group of armed criminals led by Pahari shot dead Hindu priest Sidhnath Dhokri at Chandchaura Mohalla near Vishnupad temple in Gaya, about 100 from here, late Monday.

June 27th, 2009 RANCHI - Two alleged arms smugglers, wanted by police for over a year, were arrested in this Jharkhand capital Saturday with weapons and ammunition, police said. Shamsher and Shamsuddin were arrested from near the Ranchi railway station in a joint operation by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Ranchi police.

June 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Ranchi, the state capital of Jharkhand is gradually turning into a crime capital as incidents like murder, indiscriminate firing, looting banks, and snatching cash have become a normal phenomenon here, say residents. On Monday evening two bike-borne criminals fired at four places in Ranchi shooting two people to death and injuring two others in the Kokar area of Ranchi.

May 23rd, 2009 PATNA - A man accused of raping a four-year-old girl was Saturday lynched by a mob in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, police said. Subhash Yadav, in his mid 20s, was beaten to death by an irate group of people in Naugachia in Bhagalpur after he allegedly raped the small girl Friday evening, an official said.

May 14th, 2009 RANCHI - Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi has given his consent to the government's recommendation of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing of a businessman, an official said Thursday. Raju Dhanuka, a coal trader and contractor, was shot dead by unidentified criminals at Panchwati Plaza here March 14.

May 10th, 2009 RANCHI - Three criminals, allegedly extorting money, were beaten to death by villagers in Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said Sunday. According to police, a group of five criminals claiming to be members of Maoist outfit Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT) (now known as People Liberation Front of India (PLFI)), were demanding money from residents of the district's Kesipara village late Saturday night.

March 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Traders here Monday closed their shops till noon to protest the killing of three businessmen in Jharkhand in one month. Black flags were put atop shops as hundreds of businessmen and traders took out a protest march to the governor's house.

March 12th, 2009 RANCHI - Three brothers were abducted and shot dead in Giridih district of Jharkhand, police said Thursday, adding that the incident could be a fallout of a dispute over a plot of land. According to police, around 10 to 12 criminals, armed with guns, came to Uttam Yadav's house in Belgi village Wednesday night and took him and his two brothers away at gunpoint.

February 21st, 2009 RANCHI - Six unidentified men robbed Rs.1 million at gun point from a public sector bank in Jharkhand Friday, a police officer said. The miscreants looted money from the Allahabad bank situated near Orra village in Giridih district, around 190 km from here, around 11.40 a.m.

February 1st, 2009 RANCHI - Residents of a Jharkhand village lynched three Maoist rebels who attempted to abduct a contractor but failed, police said Monday. The rebels abducted Sanjay Mahto, a contractor involved in constructing a panchayat building, Sunday night from Hesalpidi village, around 45 km from Ranchi district headquarters.
