Sir, plz pass on the following condolences .. . .
“A GREAT SENATOR OF OUR TIMES LEAVES FOR HIS HEAVENLY ABODE”
Hon’ble President Barack Obama, First Lady Madam Michelle Obama, Respected Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer, The Kennedy Family and The Office bearers of The Great Democratic Party of The USA,
Dear Sir, indeed the sad demise of respected senator Edward Kennedy has put the entire world, The USA and the Americas into state of mourning to say the least ..
August 25th, 2009 was a busy day for me; in the morning I visited the office of Prof. Babu who is one of the two guides for my Ph.D. research work in ‘Biofuels and I.C. Engines’ in Centre for Energy Studies at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi. Immediately after that short morning visit, I proceeded to our centre committee room on the same floor (2nd Fl., Block-V) where a workshop on Photo-voltaics and Solar Thermal (Solar PV/T) under the guidance of Prof. Tiwari had just started. Prof. M. S. Sodha, a well-respected & a renowned physicist, scientist and founder professor of Centre for Energy Studies in 1977-78 was delivering his inaugural address emphasizing the importance and need of renewable sources and renewable technology because the world reserves of conventional fuels (coal, fossil fuels) were depleting at a phenomenal rate and were causing excessive environmental degradation including global warming leading to adverse effects on global climate change. August 25th, 2009 was also the pre-registration day for the World hydrogen Technology Conference (WHTC) ’2009 which was being organized by Indian Oil (IOCL), SIAM in collaboration with BHU, Benaras and my institute i.e. IIT Delhi, and I was somewhat busy along with my other guide Prof. Das. The above conference took place in India Habitat Centre from Aug. 26-28, 2009 and August 26 being the first day was extremely busy and engrossing.
It was during the evening sometime while I was sitting on a PC, I proceeded to check google news page and there was this tragic news about the sad demise of Senator par excellence respected Sen. Edward Kennedy – the longest serving senator in U.S. senate who had the distinction of serving the senate under ten United States Presidents (staring from H’ble Prez JFK, Prez LBJ, Prez Nixon, Prez Ford, Prez Carter, Prez Sir Ronald Reagan, Prez Bush, Prez. Bill Clinton, Prez. George W. Bush, and recently under Prez. Barack Obama). H’ble Sen. Kennedy was a well-known well wisher of Indians and India and therefore I respected and admired him a lot. I knew that Resp. Sen. Kennedy was not keeping good health of late and was in & out the hospitals due to health related complications and I was concerned.
Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy was a well-respected and father-figure in the political circles in the USA and Washington D.C. He was a staunch supporter of reuniting the immigrant families esp. those coming from India, South Asia and Oriental Asia and therefore was known as a senator who promoted pro-immigrant bills, one after the other, in the US Senate and House of Representatives and hence championed the cause of family values, Christian traditions and world peace.
Senator Ted Kennedy was a well-known conservative Christian (Roman Catholic) and a liberal democrat who continuously worked for freedom, democracy and free trade in the countries of Americas, Europe and the entire world. Having said this, I would like to pen down a song, in respect to Sen. Kennedy, by Simon & Garfunkel which I admire the most “God Bless You Please Mrs. Robinson Jesus Loves You More Than You Would Know”. He very graciously represented in the Senate the traditions, values & the people of Massachusetts, an important New-England state within the framework of United States of America. I spent some years in the USA (from Sept’ 1982 to April ‘1990) when I studied in StevensTech till 1986, worked in NJ till May 1988 and subsequently in the great city of New York till April 1990. I watched all the interesting news, electrifying debates and scintillating programs on my 14” black & white TV which I used for most of my stay in the great United States of America; except for first two years when I shared TV with my student colleagues and friends along side everything else.
Senator Ted Kennedy was well-known to be a compassionate person, eloquent speaker, thoroughly knowledgeable constitution expert and a friend of friends besides his reputation and popularity as the younger brother of legendary President JFK & H’ble (Late) Sen. Robert Kennedy and Presidential hopeful in 1980. On many occasions I watched with interest the debates in which Sen. Kennedy vigorously participated and I remember him sitting alongside respected Sen. Joe Biden in the 1980s who then represented the state of Delaware and now is present H’ble Vice-President of the Unites States of America.
Senator Kennedy worked closely with the then Senator Biden (now H’ble Vice-Prez) who was the Senate Majority Leader on many occasions in 1980s, legendary Republican leader in Senate respected Sen. Bob Dole, and House of Representatives majority Democrat leader respected Rep. Gephardt. During my stay in the great United States of America, I always watched with interest many good TV programs on CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, Ch.9, WPIX and Public channel-13 (and I never had a cable channel as I never believed in it during that time). {Here please allow me to state something from a poem “A Road Less Traveled” (in my own words) and it goes like this – In the woods went a road which led to two paths leading deep into the jungle; one frequently traveled by people and the other somewhat grassy and less traveled by. I chose the less traveled path and it made all the difference.}
In the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy we in India and South Asia have lost a sincere and good friend. He was one of the pillars of Democratic Party in USA in recent times who steered the democrats through troubled times besides being a die-hard patriot. May Almighty God rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give Kennedy family courage to bear this great loss. While India has lost a good friend, USA has lost a great son of the soil who believed in American traditions and values.
With best regards,
Very sincerely yours
