September 25th, 2009 BHOPAL - Two tigresses in the Panna national park in Madhya Pradesh, earlier slated to get a male companion Friday, will now have to wait at least for another four weeks as the tiger identified for relocation turned out to be from the same gene pool to which one of the tigresses belongs, a forest department official said. "Wildlife Institute of India (WII) scientist Dr Ramesh, who is at Bandhavgarh, objected to the identified tiger being relocated after it was found to be from the same gene pool as a tigress already at Panna," said a forest department official, who did not wish to be named.

September 18th, 2009 BHOPAL - One more tigress was found dead at the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, an official said Friday. The partially eaten body of the tigress was found in the Kisli Range of the park Thursday.

July 31st, 2009 LOS ANGELES - A tiger that appeared in a Las Vegas magic act made an unscheduled disappearance and roamed the city's streets before being recaptured by its owners, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported Friday. The paper said that the feline escaped from the Fernando brothers Magic Act and ran loose through a northwest Las Vegas neighbourhood.

July 27th, 2009 AURANGABAD - People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Monday urged the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) to advise all zoos in the country to take precautionary measures during extreme weather conditions for the safety of wild animals and human beings around them. Referring to a news report by IANS last Friday about a white tigress who stepped out of her enclosure in the Aurangabad Zoo after a wall collapsed, Sachin Bangera, a spokesman for PETA in Pune claimed that in this instance, safety rules were not followed leading to the wild creature roaming free for nearly three hours before she was caught.

May 26th, 2009 PANAJI - Even as the Royal Bengal tiger appears to have virtually disappeared from renowned reserve forests like Sariska and Ranthambore in Rajasthan, pug marks of a tigress and a cub have been spotted for the first time in Goa's Mhadei wildlife sanctuary. Officials of the forest department, which is grappling with a tiger poaching probe, spotted the fresh pug marks May 12 in the decade old sanctuary, about 60 km from here.
