Three peacock poachers arrested in Uttar Pradesh

September 19th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two poachers have been arrested alongwith three spotted deer skins and 50 antlers of the animal in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, forest officials said Saturday. Deepak Verma and Muneer - both in their late 30s - were arrested late Friday from the Sadar area of Saharanpur district, some 400 km from the state capital.

September 16th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A bandit wanted in over a dozen criminal cases, including murder, was Wednesday arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, police said. Chukki Yadav, who carried a reward of Rs.35,000 for his capture, was caught by the Special Task Force after a shootout.

August 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two aides of underworld don Chhota Rajan were arrested after a brief gunfight with security personnel in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district, police said Saturday. Mohammed Masil and Abdul Gufran, both in their early 20s, were arrested Friday evening following a joint operation of the police and Special Operation Group (SOG).

August 3rd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Three men were arrested Monday in Uttar Pradesh's Shravasti district for killing peacocks and three carcasses of the birds were seized from them, police said. "Mohd. Arman Khan, Chand Mohammad and Azizur Rehman, who had shot the peacocks Sunday, were arrested today (Monday) from the Bantiwa area in Shravasti," police inspector Satyakant Yadav told reporters.

July 10th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Five youths from Chandigarh involved with an inter-state auto lifting racket were arrested after a brief shootout in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, police said Friday. "The five, who are in the 18-20 age group, were arrested Thursday night from a hideout in the Saklapuri town in Saharanpur," police inspector Hukum Singh told IANS over the telephone.

July 8th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Four members of a gang involved in smuggling ancient temple idols were arrested in Uttar Pradesh with Rs.5 crore worth of booty, police said Wednesday. The arrests took place in Kushinagar in Kaushambhi district, about 300 km from Lucknow.

January 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Four people have been arrested and charged with making firearms at an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said Friday. The factory was busted and a dozen country-made pistols were seized Thursday night after a raid was conducted on a tip-off in Bhudanpur locality of Azamgarh, about 270 km from here.
