Three Pak Interior Ministry officials nabbed for issuing illegal arms licenses

October 1st, 2009 KUWAIT - The Kuwait has decided to deport over 1000 Pakistanis who are living in the country illegally. According to The Dawn, Kuwait's Interior Ministry has said that it would soon send nearly 17,000 illegal migrants people back to their native country.

September 20th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The United States has rejected media reports that its envoy to Pakistan, Anne Patterson, had asked the PPP-led government to issue prohibited fire arms license to a private security company. US embassy spokesman Richard Snelisry, while confirming that the US has hired the private security company, Inter-Risk, to provide security to the US interests in Pakistan, denied reports which said that Patterson had written a letter to Interior Minister Rehman Malik, asking him to grant prohibited bore licenses to Inter-Risk.

September 19th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Police on Saturday raided an office of a private security firm hired by the US embassy and recovered 61 firearms. The police detained two persons from the office premises of the company, Inter Risk, and have also registered a case of fraud against the company, The Dawn reports.

September 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistani authorities have issued 86 licenses for prohibited weapons to a security company which has been hired by the US embassy in Islamabad. Interior Ministry sources revealed that the licenses were issued to Inter Risk following Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's approval, The Daily Times reports.

September 17th, 2009 ISTANBUL - In a unique landmark exercise, the Indian Government has undertaken a massive action plan to help over 150,000 illegal Indian immigrants acquire Italian citizenship within the next fortnight. Revealing this information exclusively to ANI TV, Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said the Italian Government has given New Delhi fifteen days to formalise the required documentation.

August 10th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik said two sources have confirmed the death of Tehreek-e-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud. The Interior Minister said he did not blow any trumpet of anything; an attack on Mehsud was conducted in the night falling between August 5 and 6, adding intelligence sources confirmed his death.

August 5th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A preliminary investigation in Pakistan's arms licence scam has revealed that Interior Ministry officials tampered with records to issue licences of prohibited weapons. The Chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Interior, Abdul Qadir Patel, confirmed that the ministry's officials were involved in the scam, The Dawn reports.

July 31st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A ban imposed by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on issuance of licences for arms of prohibited bore is likely to remain in place as the government has decided to expand an investigation into award of thousands of permits for banned weapons. The Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) is probing interior ministry officials involved in unauthorised issuance of licences.

July 28th, 2009 TEHRAN - The Iranian government Tuesday once again rejected a request by opposition leader Mir-Hossein Moussavi to hold a memorial ceremony for the victims in recent protest demonstrations, Fars news agency reported. An interior ministry official said no permission has been issued for any gathering Thursday (July 30).

July 26th, 2009 TEHRAN - Iranian opposition leader Mir-Hossein Moussavi applied at the interior ministry for permission to hold a mourning ceremony for the victims of the recent protest demonstrations, ILNA news agency reported Sunday. At least 20 demonstrators were killed during protest rallies in the last 40 days against alleged fraud in the June 12 presidential election that led to re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

June 5th, 2009 MAKHACHKALA - The interior minister of the southern Russian republic of Daghestan was shot dead Friday afternoon at a wedding reception here. "Daghestani Interior Minister Adilgerei Magomedtagirov died of gunshot wounds on the way to the hospital," an interior ministry spokesman said.

March 1st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Navy chief Saturday virtually did a turnaround on his controversial remark - that there was no evidence to prove Ajmal Amir Kasab took the sea route to India to launch the Mumbai terror strikes - by saying the interior ministry might know better. 'The Pakistan Navy is not directly involved in the investigations into the Mumbai attacks.

January 29th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has presented its investigation report on Mumbai attacks to the interior ministry, a media report said Friday. Soon after receiving the report, the interior minister held a high-level meeting with top law ministry officials to review the FIA report, Geo TV reported.

December 23rd, 2008 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's interior ministry has alerted the provinces that two militant organisations could attempt attacks at gatherings and processions during the holy month of Moharram. 'It said this in a communication sent to the four provincial governments and law enforcing agencies,' The News reported on its website.
