Three killed in Jharkhand gang war

October 12th, 2009 RANCHI/PATNA - Maoists blew up a stretch of a railway track and set ablaze three trucks in Jharkhand as they began a two-day shutdown in Bihar and Jharkhand in protest against the Centre's alleged effort to put down the CPI (Maoists) movement by force. According to sources, the incident took place at around 2:30 a.m.

September 28th, 2009 RANCHI - Four guerrillas were killed by members of another Maoist group in Gumla district of Jharkhand Monday, police said. A gun battle between two groups of Maoist rebels took place at Salkaya jungle of Gumla, about 160 km from here.

September 11th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Four people from Jharkhand, including a medicine bulk trader, were arrested and heroin worth Rs.15 million was seized, Delhi Police said Friday. According to Delhi Police's special cell, the inter-state gang of drug peddlers supplied heroin from Jharkhand to Delhi.

September 4th, 2009 RANCHI - Maoist guerrillas Friday blew up two police pickets in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. No one was injured, police said.

September 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - Six people were killed and 20 injured when the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Gumla district of Jharkhand Thursday afternoon, police said. According to police, the bus had nearly 40 passengers when it went off the road while passing over a culvert at Baghima village, around 145 km here.

September 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - The Jharkhand Police on Wednesday rescued a State Government official, who was abducted by the Maoists in Palamau District. According to police sources, a 20 member armed gang of the Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT) had abducted Alok Kumar, a Circle Officer (CO) of Paki block in Palamau district, on Monday.

July 30th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - A criminal, allegedly involved in many serious crimes including murder, extortion, robbery and tender-fixing in the coastal districts of Orissa, was shot dead Thursday. Police claimed he had been killed by his own gang members.

April 9th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist commander was killed in a gun battle with a rival group while a civilian was killed and four security personnel were injured in a bomb blast in Jharkhand, police said Thursday. Krishna Yadav, a zonal commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, was killed by a rival Maoist group, Jharkhand Prastuti Committee, in Hazaribagh district Thursday.

March 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Two Maoist rebels were killed after a two-hour-long shootout with police in Palamau district of Jharkhand Sunday, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a hideout of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) near Barijharia village under Chainpur police station in Palamau district, 180 km from the state capital, and asked the rebels to surrender.

January 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Five security personnel were killed and at least two were injured in a landmine blast by Maoist rebels in Jharkhand Saturday, a police officer said. The blast was detonated Saturday afternoon by Maoist rebels between Manika and Patki on the national highway in Latehar district, about 140 km from here.
