Thousands demonstrate in Britain against Israeli raids on Gaza

May 3rd, 2009 GAZA - Two Palestinians were killed and four wounded in a series of Israeli army airstrikes on the border between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt, medics and security sources said. The security sources of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip said that Israeli jets targeted three underground tunnels Saturday by air-to-ground missiles near the town of Rafah.

March 5th, 2009 GAZA - Israeli jets Wednesday evening launched a missile in northern Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians and wounding five, medics and witnesses said. Gaza emergency chief Mo'aweya Hassanein told reporters that two Palestinians were killed and five injured in an Israeli airstrike on a local car that drove in northern Gaza Strip.

February 17th, 2009 TEL AVIV - Israeli fighter jets bombed tunnels running to Egypt and a Hamas post early Wednesday in the southern Gaza Strip, apparently in retaliation for a mortar fired overnight by Palestinian militants into Israel, Israeli media reports said. Seven tunnels were hit near Rafah and one other target was hit in the Gaza Strip, an Israeli military spokesman told the Haaretz newspaper, which identified the second strike as hitting a Hamas post in Khan Younis.

January 28th, 2009 GAZA - Eight Palestinians were injured Thursday as an Israeli army aircraft fired a missile in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, medics and witnesses said. The witnesses said that one air-to-ground missile hit a man on a motorcycle in a busy street in the town, seriously wounding the man and seven other people near Nasser Hospital.

January 26th, 2009 GAZA/JERUSALEM - One Israeli soldier was killed and three others wounded Tuesday morning near the border between Israel and the central Gaza Strip, Palestinian and Israeli sources said. Residents in the area east of central Gaza said a bomb detonated near the fence of the border.

January 19th, 2009 GAZA - United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Gaza Tuesday afternoon to evaluate the ground situation following the Israeli military offensive in the salient. His convoy crossed into the Gaza Strip through Erez border crossing between northern Gaza Strip and Israel.

January 17th, 2009 BEIRUT - A Hamas representative in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan, said Saturday if there is no Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and no lifting of siege there will be no ceasefire. Hamdan was speaking shortly before the Israeli security cabinet announced a unilateral ceasefire in Gaza.

January 15th, 2009 GAZA - The toll in the Israeli operation against the Hamas-led militant groups in the Gaza Strip has risen to 1,133, emergency officials said here Friday. Gaza emergency chief Mo'aweya Hassanein said three Islamist gunmen and three children were killed in separate Israeli attacks early Friday.

January 3rd, 2009 RAMALLAH - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called Saturday for the UN Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to stop the Israeli air and ground offensives on the Gaza Strip. Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said in a statement that Abbas called on the Security Council to convene immediately 'to halt and stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.' 'President Abbas intensified his contacts with Arab and foreign countries to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip without any preconditions,' Erekat said.

January 2nd, 2009 GAZA CITY - An Israeli airstrike on a mosque in the northern Gaza Strip late Saturday afternoon killed 11 people and wounded 50, 24 of them seriously, Palestinian sources reported. An Israeli military spokesman had no immediate comment on the report, which comes on the eighth day of an Israeli offensive, mainly conducted through aerial attacks on the Gaza Strip.

January 1st, 2009 TEHRAN - Iran Friday criticised the international community for not doing enough to end the Isreali air raids on the Gaza Strip that have claimed more than 400 lives, including those of women and children. Iran's influential cleric Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said serious diplomatic efforts, especially from Islamic countries, are required to end the hostlities that have entered their seventh day, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

December 30th, 2008 CAIRO - The head of the Arab League urged the United Nations Security Council Wednesday to take immediate action to stop Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip. 'We urge the Security Council not to fall under any pressure and take an immediate decision to stop the Israeli attacks on Gaza,' said Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa at the opening of an emergency meeting of the body.

December 27th, 2008 BEIRUT - Hundreds of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon Saturday marched to the Egyptian embassy here to protest against the Israeli raids on Gaza. Riot police have thrown a security ring around the embassy in western Beirut to prevent the protesters from entering into the premises, Hezbollah Al-Nour radio reported.

December 26th, 2008 GAZA - At least 120 Palestinians, most of them Hamas security members, were killed Saturday when Israeli airplanes launched simultaneous strikes across the Gaza Strip, Hamas sources said. Tawfiq Jaber, chief of Hamas police, was among the dead in the series of strikes targetting almost all Hamas-run security headquarters and training camps of its military wing.
