July 25th, 2009 MUMBAI - Telecom services provider Tata Communications Saturday said its net profit for the quarter ended June 30 fell 67 percent to Rs.32 crore ($6.6 million) as against Rs.98 crore in the same period last fiscal. Tata's stand-alone revenue also fell 3.2 percent to Rs.843 crore for the quarter under review from Rs.871 crore, the company said in a statement.

June 30th, 2009 MUMBAI - Indian telephony and internet services provider Tata Communications Tuesday announced its partnership with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide to roll out its video-conferencing facility in the hotel giant's properties. Under the agreement, Tata will increase its network of public Cisco Telepresence rooms by opening 10 new facilities in Starwood's hotels by the year-end, the company said in a regulatory statement.

June 25th, 2009 MUMBAI - Indian telephony and internet services provider Tata Communications Thursday forged two separate deals with Britain-based BT Group and American network services major Telx. The $1-billion deal with BT will see the British company outsourcing its entire voice traffic to Tata Communications, while the latter will utilise BT's infrastructure for its calls to Britain.

June 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Tata DoCoMo, the joint venture between telecom majors Tata Teleservices and NTT DoCoMo of Japan, commercially launched GSM telephony operations in Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles Wednesday. Tata DoCoMo's pan-India service rollout will be completed this year, with entire south Indian circles going "live" in a fortnight, it said in a statement.

June 10th, 2009 AHMEDABAD - Bosch Automotive Electronics India, a 100 percent subsidiary of the Bosch group, will supply brake solutions for the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, the company said Wednesday. The firm will open a small unit in Gujarat to supply the brake solutions to Tata Motors, which is setting up a plant in Sanand, about 45 km from here, to manufacture the Rs.100,000 car, Sanjay Chakravarty, head-corporate communications of Bosch Group India, told reporters here.

June 9th, 2009 JOHANNESBURG - The Tata-led Neotel consortium, which is developing South Africa's telecommunications as the country's second network operator, has rejected suggestions of "cultural clashes" between South African Indian staff and those brought from India by Tata Communications. "The statement that 'there are cultural clashes' brewing at Neotel is not supported by facts, and neither is the referral to animosity between South African Indian employees of Neotel and those who have been seconded to the company by Tata Communications," Wandile Zote, Neotel executive head for corporate communications and branding, said in a letter to the editor of the national daily Business Report.

March 31st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Tata Communications Tuesday said it has tied up with Cisco and Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications (PLDT) to roll out telepresence services, the next generation video-based communication technology, in the Philippines. As per the agreement, the companies have decided to open a public telepresence studio in the Philippines, which will be operated by PLDT.

Play will implement Tata's voice termination product VTS Prime Solution to manage customer call quality.

February 11th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Private telecom major Tata Commununications Thursday announced that it will invest around $430 million (Rs.21 billion/Rs.2,100 crore) in the Asia Pacific region to expand its operations. The investments will be used for developing its internet data centre Tata Communications Exchange (TCE) and for the completion of the main segment of its TGN-Intra Asia Cable system, a company statement said.

January 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Telecom operator Tata Communications has acquired a 30 percent stake in Neotel, a South Africa-based operator, the Indian firm said Monday. Tata Communications picked up the stake from two other operators, Eskom and Transnet.
