Tata Communications, Etisalat jointly launch ethernet services

October 8th, 2009 KOLKATA - Telecom major Tata Teleservices and Japan-based Docomo are planning to jointly set up a research and development facility in India, a top official said Thursday. "The company (Docomo) is interested in developing certain amount of value-added services which will be available on the Tata-Docomo GSM network here," Tata Teleservices managing director Anil Sardana told reporters at the launch of Tata-Docomo GSM services here.

September 10th, 2009 MUMBAI - Leading Indian television and entertainment house UTV and the US-based news and information content provider Bloomberg have signed an agreement to launch a business news channel in the country. The pact also calls for the renaming of an existing channel as Bloomberg-UTV and will target 30 million households across India with business, financial, and political news, a joint statement by the two companies said.

August 18th, 2009 MUMBAI - The installation, testing and commissioning of the 6,700 km TGN-Intra Asia (TGN-IA) cable system was complete, telecom service provider Tata Communications and undersea communications technology leader Tyco Telecommunications announced Tuesday. "The fully operational 6,700 km TGN-IA system links Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Vietnam and the Philippines, providing route diversity throughout the Asia Pacific region, Tata Communications said in a regulatory statement.

July 31st, 2009 MUMBAI - Reliance Communications (R-Com), part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, has posted a net profit of Rs.1,637 crore ($342 million) for the quarter ended June 30 as against Rs.1,512 crore in the like period last year, a growth of 8.3 percent. The company's total income surged 15.5 percent to Rs.6,145 crore from Rs.5,322 crore, it said in a regulatory statement.

July 25th, 2009 MUMBAI - Telecom services provider Tata Communications Saturday said its net profit for the quarter ended June 30 fell 67 percent to Rs.32 crore ($6.6 million) as against Rs.98 crore in the same period last fiscal. Tata's stand-alone revenue also fell 3.2 percent to Rs.843 crore for the quarter under review from Rs.871 crore, the company said in a statement.

July 22nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Etisalat DB, a joint venture between Dubai-based telecom major Etisalat and Mumbai's Dynamix Balwas group (DB), and the Anil Ambani-promoted telephony operator Reliance Communications (RCom), have entered into an agreement to share infrastructure for 10 years, a RCom statement said Wednesday. The agreement, which will enable Etisalat DB to share tower and transmission infrastructure owned by RCom and sister company Reliance Infratel, is expected to increase RCom's revenues by Rs.10,000 crore ($2.2 billion), the company said in the statement.

June 25th, 2009 MUMBAI - Indian telephony and internet services provider Tata Communications Thursday forged two separate deals with Britain-based BT Group and American network services major Telx. The $1-billion deal with BT will see the British company outsourcing its entire voice traffic to Tata Communications, while the latter will utilise BT's infrastructure for its calls to Britain.

June 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Tata DoCoMo, the joint venture between telecom majors Tata Teleservices and NTT DoCoMo of Japan, commercially launched GSM telephony operations in Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles Wednesday. Tata DoCoMo's pan-India service rollout will be completed this year, with entire south Indian circles going "live" in a fortnight, it said in a statement.

January 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Telecom operator Tata Communications has acquired a 30 percent stake in Neotel, a South Africa-based operator, the Indian firm said Monday. Tata Communications picked up the stake from two other operators, Eskom and Transnet.
