October 5th, 2009 RANCHI - Police here Monday claimed to have arrested a woman Maoist commander in the Jharkhand capital. The woman rebel, whose identity the police did not disclose immediately, was arrested from a colony situated under Sukhdeonagar police station of Ranchi.

September 29th, 2009 RANCHI - Five Maoist rebels, including two top leaders, have been arrested from two districts in Jharkhand, police said Tuesday. Four Maoist rebels were arrested Monday night from the Semara jungle, which falls under Palkot police station of Gumla district, around 145 km from here.

September 8th, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a senior commander, were arrested after a gun battle lasting over two and a half hours on the outskirts of Ranchi Tuesday, police said. According to police, three members of the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC), including commander Raj Kumar Ganju, were arrested from Churugarha village, around 55 km from Ranchi.

September 7th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Three Maoist rebels were arrested in Orissa Monday in two separate incidents, police said. "Mala Madakami, who claims to be the area commander of Vansadhara division of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was arrested during a combing operation by police in the southern district of Malkangiri," a police officer said.

September 7th, 2009 RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh police Monday gunned down a deputy commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and arrested four of his colleagues, officials said. "We raided a CPI-Maoist hideout in a hilly area under Bhansi locality in Dantewada district and shot dead a deputy commander and arrested four of his colleagues including a minor boy," Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra told reporters at the district headquarters in Dantewada, some 380 km south of capital Raipur.

September 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - Seven Maoist rebels were arrested after a nearly two-hour long gun battle with security personnel in Jharkhand's Garwah district Thursday evening, police said. The arrested rebels belong to Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a breakaway group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), according to police.

August 24th, 2009 Indo-ASIAN NEWS SERVICE KOLKATA - A two-day shutdown called by the Maoists in five states beginning Monday, to demand the release of two of its arrested members, had negligible impact in West Bengal, police said. "The shutdown hardly (had an) impact on the normal life in three West Bengal districts - Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore - which are considered as Maoist strongholds in the state," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha told IANS.

August 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist leader wanted in over a dozen criminal cases was arrested in Jharkhand's Latehar district Monday, police said. Praduman Sharma alias Kundanji alias Sudhansu Sharma, member of Bihar regional committee of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was arrested Monday at Tori railway station of Lathear district, some 160 km from Ranchi.

July 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Jharkhand police Sunday said they have arrested a suspected arms and cell phone sim card supplier of Maoist rebels who led the security forces to a huge haul of explosives. A country-made revolver, some live catridges and two mobile phones were recovered from Firdos, the suspected supplier.

July 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Eight Maoist rebels have been arrested at three places in Jharkhand Sunday, police said. Four rebels, belonging to the Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT), were arrested in Ramgarh district following a tip-off.

July 16th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist commander was arrested in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district Thursday, police said. Area commander of Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC) Ramanji was arrested from Burkunda area of Ramgarh district, some 80 km from Ranchi, police said.

June 29th, 2009 RANCHI - Eleven Maoist guerrillas were arrested Monday from a Jharkhand village for distriibuting pamphlets. The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) guerrillas were arrested from Cheliyama village in Seraikela and Kharsawa district, about 170 km from the state capital Ranchi.

June 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - Police Sunday said they have arrested seven Maoist insurgents in a remote hamlet in Chhattisgarh's southern Bastar region. The arrests were made following a tip off in a thick forest in Kanker district where the insurgents were holding a meeting, police officials said.

May 29th, 2009 RAIPUR - Ten suspected Maoists were arrested Friday in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district for their alleged role in an ambush on a police patrol early this month in which 13 people were killed. The rebels were arrested in village Risgaon in Dhamtari, some 125 km from capital Raipur.
