Summit draft: G8/G5 seek Doha trade deal in 2010

L’AQUILA, Italy — Leaders of developed and developing nations meeting in the quake-ravaged city of L’Aquila are seeking agreement to wrap up stalled trade talks in 2010 and head off protectionist policies.

A draft of a joint declaration by the Group of Eight obtained Thursday by The Associated Press sets a goal of concluding the stalled Doha round next year. It asked trade ministers to meet before the Group of 20 meeting of rich and developing countries next September in Pittsburgh.

The final document is to be released later in the day.
