Sonia inaugurates Infosys education centre in Mysore

September 28th, 2009 MYSORE - A colourful procession of caparisoned elephants or 'jumbo savari', watched by thousands of people including those from abroad, marked the end of the 10-day Mysore Dussehra celebrations here Monday. The highlight of the jumbo savari was elephant Balarama carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed on the 750-kg golden howdah (carriage) mounted atop him.

Gandhi was at the campus here to inaugurate the Global Education Centre, the latest infrastructural addition to the IT giant meant for training its new recruits.

September 15th, 2009 MYSORE - United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi Tuesday inaugurated a world-class corporate education centre of Infosys Technologies at its Mysore campus. The facility is an extension of the IT major's Global Education Centre (GEC), which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2005.

August 11th, 2009 RAE BAREILLY - Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi hostel building at the Firoz Gandhi Engineering College in Rae Bareli. The hostel has been constructed at a cost of six crore rupees and also residential capacity for 250 students.

July 28th, 2009 MYSORE - The judicial custody of Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik, who was arrested for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year, ends today. On July 25, the Sessions Court sent him to judicial custody till today.

July 25th, 2009 MYSORE - The Sessions Court in Mysore on Saturday denied bail to the Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik and sent him to judicial custody till July 28 for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year. Mutalik, who had visited Kyathamaranahalli after the communal clashes in April, had allegedly addressed a gathering of local residents in the locality.

July 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday asked all state governments to provide a detailed report of their objectives in the field of higher education by 2020 within a three month deadline. "In the next three months...each state must give its vision as to what it wishes to do by 2020 in the filed of higher education," he said at a conference here attended by higher education secretaries of states," Sibal said.

July 5th, 2009 MYSORE - Railway recruitment examination centre were attacked by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Pravin Shetty Group), demanding more preference Kannadigas in railway jobs here today. The activists entered the examination hall in Yuvaraj College, and shouted pro Kannada slogans.

July 3rd, 2009 MYSORE - The Rapid Action Force (RAF) staged a flag march in the riot-hit areas of Mysore today. The flag march was taken out day after three persons died in communal violence at a religious site.

July 2nd, 2009 MYSORE - Two persons were killed and three others injured, as two communities armed with batons and weapons clashed over an alleged desecration of a religious school in Mysore district of Karnataka on Thursday. According to the police, they had to resort to lathi-charge and use teargas shells to disperse the crowd, as the news about the desecration angered members of one community, who came out with weapons and batons onto the streets and had a scuffle with members of another community.

May 21st, 2009 BANGALORE - Five employees of Infosys Technologies were killed in a road accident in Karnataka's Belgaum district Thursday, police said. The incident took place after the driver lost control over the KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) Airavatha bus carrying 43 Infosys employees at Hukkeri Taluka in Belgaum, northern Karnataka, 480 km from here.

April 6th, 2009 MYSORE - Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik was taken into preventive custody on Monday. "Muthalik had come to visit the Kyatharamanhalli suburb, where group clashes took place this week," Mysore police said, adding that the prohibitory orders had been imposed in the area under Section 144.
