"The tractor trolley, that was carrying 25 people, fell into a roadside ditch after the driver lost control," a police officer said.

July 7th, 2009 RAIPUR - A youth was allegedly robbed of Rs.2 million by his friend who threw acid on him and fled with the bag containing the cash here Tuesday, police said. The robbery took place in Daldal Siwni area under Mowa police station of the city.

April 29th, 2009 RAIPUR - At least eight people, including two women and a four-year-old boy, were killed and 18 seriously injured in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district Wednesday when the bus they were travelling in hit a tree and turned turtle, police said. The accident took place in Mainpur area, some 125 km from here, when the driver of the speeding private bus lost control and hit a huge tree, said Lambodar Patel, in-charge of the Mainpur police station.

April 19th, 2009 RAIPUR - Bhupesh Baghel, a former minister and Congress candidate from Chhattisgarh's Raipur seat, has alleged that inadequate security was being provided for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) kept in a college here and has begun a sit-in protest right outside the strong room. Baghel and a few of his supporters reached the Engineering College Campus in Shej Bahar area late Saturday and began their sit-in, demanding that paramilitary troopers be deployed instead of the state police personnel to guard the EVMs kept in the strong room.

April 7th, 2009 RAIPUR - A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly beating his parents and son to death in Chhattisgarh, police said Tuesday. Parasram Sahu killed his father Bhagiram Sahu, 65, mother Kejai Bai, 60, and his only son Hemant Sahu, 19, Sunday night in Sonasilli village of Raipur district.

March 27th, 2009 RAIPUR - Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) flamboyant leader Dilip Singh Judeo and his rival Renu Jogi of the Congress were among candidates who filed their nomination papers Friday in Chhattisgarh. Judeo, a former union minister, led a massive procession in Bilaspur town to file papers before the district returning officer.

March 19th, 2009 RAIPUR - The Congress party is considering replacing Ashish Singh Thakur, its candidate for Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur seat with a more known face, after party cadres said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Dilip Singh Judeo had been offered a virtual walkover. Sources in the Congress said that the party was giving serious thought to the opinion of party leaders of Bilaspur parliamentary constituency who described the party's decision to field Thakur against former union minister Judeo as a 'blunder'.

February 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will invest Rs.1.36 billion for construction of a new integrated terminal at the Raipur airport, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said here Friday. 'The AAI will be investing Rs.136 crore (Rs.1.36 billion) for a new integrated terminal at Raipur airport to make it an international-standard airport,' Patel said here at a function to lay the foundation stone for the new terminal building.

February 15th, 2009 RAIPUR - A day-long traders' strike, called by the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries here Monday to protest against the anti-encroachment drive of the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), caused a loss of at least Rs.1 billion (Rs.100 crore), the lobby said. The RMC has demolished over 250 shopping outlets in the city within a month.
