September 8th, 2009 BANGALORE - British Telecom (BT) has bagged a three-year deal to operate international data network for Siemens Enterprise Communications in 230 locations across 45 countries, the telecom major said Tuesday. BT's convergent network solution, based on its multi-protocol label switching technology, will enable the enterprise to handle its data communications on a single platform and reduce its networking costs by 30 per cent, the company said in a statement here.

July 16th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Bank of China will extend a loan of $70 million to Sistema Shyam TeleServices, the telecom joint venture between Sistema of Russia and Shyam group of India, to strengthen its wireless infrastructure. The loan is for eight years with three years of moratorium on principal repayment and will help Sistema Shyam expand its geographical reach and seamlessly serve the growing subscriber-base, the company said in a statement.

April 22nd, 2009 KOLKATA - Shyam Sistema Teleservices Ltd, a joint venture between the city-based Shyam Group and Russia's Sistema, Wednesday announced its plans to launch mobile services in Kolkata next month. The joint venture company, in which Sistema has 74 percent holding and Shyam has the remaining 26 percent, will introduce services in other eastern states after the Kolkata launch, said Alexander Chinyaev, Sistema's chief representative in India.

December 29th, 2008 MUMBAI - The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group Wednesday launched its much-awaited GSM mobile telephone services spread over 11,000 towns and 340,000 villages with a capital infusion of Rs.10,000 crore (Rs.100 billion/$2 billion). Chairman Anil Ambani, who launched the services from the Reliance Centre here, said the rollout happened six months ahead of schedule, with the company having secured the frequency spectrum for the services only in January.
