Shutterfly acquires photo startup Tiny Pictures

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Online photo service Shutterfly Inc. said Monday it has acquired Tiny Pictures, a picture and video sharing startup, for an undisclosed amount.

Tiny Pictures’ Radar service lets people share cell phone photos and videos on its Web site, and it connects to sites like Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. Tiny Pictures was backed by venture capital firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Mohr Davidow Ventures.

Shutterfly lets people upload digital photos and order prints and other custom-printed wares like photo cards, mugs, calendars and books. It also lets users create personal Web sites to share photos, video and other content.

Tiny Pictures’ CEO John Poisson and his team will join Shutterfly.

Shares of Shutterfly jumped 47 cents, or 3.3 percent, to $14.78 in afternoon trading.
