7th victim of Mexico day care fire arrives in US

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A seventh child burned in the fire at a Mexican day care center this month has arrived at a California hospital for burn treatment.

Mexican Consul General Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez said Wednesday that a 2-year-old girl arrived in Sacramento late Tuesday. She was in critical condition at Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California.

She joins three other Mexican children in the hospital’s intensive care unit since the June 5 fire in Hermosillo. The other three children are listed in fair condition.

The fire caused 46 deaths, mostly children and toddlers. Mexican health officials have said more than 20 victims, including those sent to Sacramento, remain hospitalized.
