Police sources were quoted as saying that some armed men opened indiscriminate fire late Saturday night on military intelligence officer Aftab Alam and military transport battalion official Ameer Hamza in front of their homes in the military area at Nowshera, a garrison city some 100 km northwest of Islamabad.

April 29th, 2009 RAIPUR - A woman district education officer (DEO) allegedly committed suicide in her home here in Chhattisgarh, the police said Wednesday. Police officer Shaukat Ali said that Raipur DEO Shail Shandile was found dead at her posh Shankar Nagar residence.

April 17th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Five people were killed when an ambulance they were travelling in was hit by a bus in Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh Friday, police said. Barring the driver who was among the dead, the other victims belonged to one family and were going to a hospital to donate blood to a relative when the accident took place in Moradabad, about 350 km form here.

April 4th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least six people were feared killed in a powerful bomb explosion in an upscale Islamabad neighbourhood Saturday evening, police and eyewitnesses said. Television channels quoted a senior police officer as saying that six people were feared dead and many more were injured.

February 1st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Sher Azam was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the country's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Sunday, the police said. The leader was attacked when he was returning home after shopping with family members in Haripur City, 65 km north of Islamabad, the police said.

February 1st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Unidentified gunmen Monday kidnapped a senior official of the United Nations refugee agency in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan, the police said. The kidnappers intercepted the vehicle of the local head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) soon after he left his residence in the provincial capital, Quetta, a police officer said.

December 30th, 2008 NEW DELHI - A trader was shot dead in the capital by two unidentified assailants as he tried to resist their robbery bid, the police said Wednesday. Deepak Kumar, 45, was at his grocery shop in the Hanuman Market of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi when the assailants tried to rob him late Tuesday, a police officer said.
